Ryanair to start new routes with low prices in Hungary!
We have exciting news for all people with wanderlust: Ryanair is planning a major expansion in Hungary. With more new routes and lower prices, the Irish low-cost airline is aiming to increase its dominance and compete with Wizz Air in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. The carrier expects to increase passenger numbers in Central and Eastern Europe by at least 50 percent over the next decade.
Ryanair plans expansion in the Central and Eastern European region
Ryanair sees the Central and Eastern European region as an important area for its planned expansion in the near future. The airline aims to achieve a dominant position in this zone, Alicja Wojcik-Golebiowska, Ryanair’s director for the region, told Reuters in an interview.
The company forecasts that passenger numbers will increase by at least 50 percent in the next decade in Central and Eastern Europe, which is still a less developed market, AIRportal.hu writes, based on the interview.
“We want to focus very much on this region,” Alicja Wojcik-Golebiowska told Reuters. “We see that this is going to be a large part of our upcoming expansion.”
As for the advancement of the region, she said “we see that Central and Eastern Europe was a little bit left behind in last years. So we want to catch up in this region to catch it up with our most developed markets like Spain, Italy or Poland.”
Need for new routes, great prices, punctuality
The airline is also aiming for a dominant position in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, she said. The director added that the company, which recently placed an order for 150+150 new generation Boeing 737s, is looking to add new routes as air traffic picks up after the COVID pandemic.
Asked how the Irish low-cost airline plans to compete with the Hungarian Wizz Air, which is strong in the region, Ms Wojcik-Golebiowska said they would do so with “our best fares, with our best punctuality, and also with making sure that we do not have delays and cancellations”.
“We plan to do it with delivering more routes and better fares and more travelling choices for our passengers,” she added.
