Shots fired at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago: Armed intruder killed at guarded gate

An armed man was shot dead by security forces after attempting to enter the protected perimeter of Donald Trump’s Florida residence early Sunday morning.

According to a statement from the United States Secret Service, the incident occurred near the northern gate of Mar-a-Lago, where officers detected an unauthorised entry.

Authorities said the suspect was carrying a hunting rifle and a petrol canister. Two Secret Service agents and a local police patrol confronted the man and ordered him to put the items down.

Ric Bradshaw, sheriff of Palm Beach County, told reporters that the man did not respond verbally. While placing the canister on the ground, he simultaneously raised the rifle into a firing position, prompting officers to open fire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

21-year-old identified

The sheriff identified the intruder as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin, a resident of North Carolina.

FBI investigation underway

The case is now being investigated jointly by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Secret Service and local law enforcement.

Officials confirmed that neither Trump nor any other protected individuals were present at the estate at the time of the incident.
