Snow covered parts of Hungary today – PHOTOS

In the Kőszegi and Soproni Mountains, the temperature dropped below the freezing point, and 5-6 cm of snow fell by this morning: check out some photos below.
According to Időkép, Hungary’s national holiday, 15 March, brought snow to the Westernmost peaks of the country. The reason for the odd weather is a Mediterranean cyclone. On the top of the Kendig peak in the Kőszegi Mountain, the temperature fell below -1 degree Celsius, and intensive snowfall started. In the Soproni Mountain, the rainfall transformed into snowfall.

In 2013, a brutal snowstorm surprised Hungary. On the roads, several drivers had to stop their cars, unable to continue their journey. The Hungarian interior ministry sent a text message to everybody’s phone saying that if one’s car is stuck, they should change to another vehicle. In most places, the snow’s thickness remained below 25 cm. The reason for the exceptional weather was a high-moisture Mediterranean cyclone. At least six people died due to the extreme cold, and more than five thousand cars were stuck in the snow.
