Somebody wanted to set the famous lion of Budapest’s Chain Bridge on fire
Zoltán Horváth, a Hungarian Twitter user, reported on his page that somebody wanted to burn down the famous LEGO lion guarding Budapest’s Chain Bridge. Luckily, the perpetrator’s plan did not pan out successfully. Nevertheless, he managed to melt some of the LEGO parts on the side of the “statue”.
The LEGO lion, assembled from 850,000 pieces, was placed on the Chain Bridge on 28 October. Later, it was transferred to Clark Ádám Square in order to be more accessible.
The statue, weighing 3 tonnes, was protected against the weather and graffitis with some extra layers of special chemicals. However, it still remained vulnerable to barbarism, Magyar Narancs said. Thankfully, the LEGO statue did not catch fire. Only some parts were damaged on its side.
