Spring warmth to continue in Hungary next week – but wind, chilly mornings and scattered showers expected

Hungary is set to enjoy another week of largely sunny, spring-like weather, although the coming days may also bring gusty winds, chilly mornings and the occasional shower, according to forecasts from HungaroMet.
After an unusually warm start to March, the country will remain under the influence of a large high-pressure system covering much of central and southern Europe. This pattern typically brings calm, sunny conditions, and it will continue to dominate Hungary’s weather in the coming days.
Temperatures far above seasonal average
The past weekend already highlighted how unusual the current weather pattern is. On Saturday, daytime temperatures across Hungary were around 7–8°C higher than the seasonal average.
The warmest temperature of the year so far was recorded in Szécsény, where thermometers climbed to 19.2°C. In Budapest’s Újpest district, 18.8°C was measured, while the nationwide average maximum temperature was close to 17°C.
Despite these mild afternoons, meteorologists note that nights remain noticeably colder, with frost still possible in some locations.
Windy start to the week
Monday will begin mostly clear across the country, with plenty of sunshine and only thin clouds. No precipitation is expected, but a strengthening south-easterly wind may make conditions feel slightly cooler.
Stronger gusts are possible in areas such as the Bakony Mountains and in southern parts of the country. Daytime highs are expected to reach between 13°C and 17°C.
On Tuesday, thicker high clouds may appear in places, but sunshine will still dominate. Winds will remain brisk at times, and temperatures are forecast to climb between 13°C and 19°C. Early morning temperatures will generally range between 0°C and 6°C, although colder pockets could still see frost.
Showers possible from midweek
From Wednesday onwards, slightly more unstable conditions may develop. While sunshine will continue to break through the veil and cumulus clouds, isolated showers could occur in some areas.
Daytime temperatures will remain comfortably mild, typically between 14°C and 19°C, while overnight lows will stay close to freezing in many regions.
Thursday and Friday are expected to bring similar conditions: mixed cloud cover with several hours of sunshine and the possibility of scattered showers. Winds will generally be light to moderate.
Mild spring weather expected for the national holiday
Looking ahead to next weekend, forecasters expect partly cloudy skies with occasional showers in some locations.
On Hungarian National Day, which falls on Sunday, temperatures are expected to rise to between 15°C and 20°C during the day, with mostly moderate winds and partly cloudy skies.
Overall, Hungary can expect a continuation of mild, early spring weather, though residents should still prepare for chilly mornings and the occasional passing shower.
