SURVEY – Pro-Olympic sentiment up in Hungary
Budapest, December 2 (MTI) – A majority of Hungarians already supports Budapest’s bid to host the Olympic Summer Games in 2024, a recent survey by Nezopont Institute showed.
Fifty-three percent of respondents said they would be glad to see an Olympics in Hungary, as against 40 percent in August 2014 and 49 percent in July this year.
Thirty-six percent opposed the idea, down from 50 percent in August last year and 42 percent in July 2015.
The shift was even more marked among ardent supporters and staunch opponents. The proportion of the former increased from 17 percent to 31 percent in the period under survey. Simultaneously, staunch opponents dropped from 29 percent to 19 percent.
The survey was conducted over the phone from November 14 to 19 with a sample of 1,000.
