Turks are not standing only in words for the autonomy of Szekelyfold. On Saturday, hundreds of people marched in front of the Romanian Embassy in Istanbul to express their solidarity with the Szekelys, alfahir.hu says.
On the demonstration, which was organized by the Turan Ocakları Istanbul NGO, the demonstrators went with Hungarian and Szekely flags as well as with Turkish and Hungarian banners to the Romanian consulate.
One of the participants said to the grateful Hungarians on the Facebook site of the organization: You do not need to thank you. It is only natural that the 80 million Turkish stand by the Turanian brothers.
Fighting for autonomy since decades
In autonomy case, there was no serious progress until the 2000s. Efforts got a new momentum by the formation of the Szekely National Council (SZNC) in 2003. The founders decided that they would fight for autonomy by means of law and democracy, using the opportunities offered by international law as well.
According to alfahir.hz, the SZNC organized more autonomy rallies for the autonomy: on 2013, Szekely Autonomy Day was held in October in the same year, Great March of the Szekely was also held, on which participated nearly 20 thousand people, forming a 54 km-long contiguous column between Kokos and Bereck.
A referendum of autonomy was also held, but of course, the Romanians did not take into account the results. Thus, the Szekelys of Covasna, Harghita and Maros counties have been continuing their struggle until today.
