Samples from the carcass of a boar found near Bicske, in central-west Hungary, have tested positive for the African swine fever virus (ASF), food safety authority Nébih reported on Tuesday.
The carcass was found near an area earlier declared as infected, and the virus is believed to have spread naturally among the boar population, Nebih said.
The authority noted that the virus was not harmful to humans, but pointed to the economic ramifications and warned swine farmers to fully observe rules of prevention.
Nébih also called on tourists not to leave food waste in the forests and to carefully wash their footwear after outings.
The Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden has joined the European Commission’s Together for biodiversity international coalition set up with the goal of raising awareness of nature protection, the zoo said on Friday.
The coalition already has some 300 members including nature parks, research institutes, universities, museums, zoos, aqua parks and botanical gardens in 51 countries, it said in a statement. “Adolf Lendl, the director of the Budapest Zoo hundred years ago, already set presenting biodiversity to the public as a goal,” the statement said.
Among Hungary’s zoos, the Budapest City Park facility
shows the most types of animal species and groups and has a rich botanical garden.
With its diversity it is outstanding in international comparison, the zoo said.
Beside the Budapest Zoo, the other five Hungarian facilities that have joined the EC biodiversity coalition include the Botanical Garden of Debrecen University, the Ecological Research Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Hungarian Natural Science Museum, the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Food Sciences and the National Botanical Garden.
The international coalition will hold a major conference in China in October with the goal to take key decisions on saving the world’s wildlife.
It is time for swimming and summer recreation. A popular destination is Lake Balaton where families like to go to relax. Many keep dogs, which they also take with them on summer trips, but in most places, their four-legged friends are not allowed to take part in the beach activities. Here is a list of beaches to enjoy this summerwith your furry friends.
Keszthely Dog Park and Picnic Garden
The Keszthely Dog Park and Picnic Garden, which opened its doors in 2020, is clean, tidy, and dog-friendly to the maximum. A number of alterations have been made to the area before opening to make the beach as safe as possible.
The beach is a real community space. It awaits dogs and their owners on nearly half an acre. Shallow water, great shore, trees, shade, movement area – everything is provided to make both bipeds and quadrupeds feel great in their free time.
A dog seating area, sunbeds, and umbrellas enhance the comfort on the beach, which has recently won the title of Tourism of the City of Keszthely.
Since it is in its first year, the beach will charge a token entrance fee this year. The entrance fee is HUF 200 for dogs and HUF 300 for their owners. The beach is open from 9 am to 7 pm in the summer.
The Keszthely Dog Park and Picnic Garden also requires mandatory vaccinations, microchips, and worm-free puppies. There is also a snack bar and washbasins in the area.
Platán beach (Balatonboglár)
The more than nine-hectare beach can be accessed from Highway 7 via a row of plane trees. There are many grass and sand sports fields on the beach, and a basketball court has been set up in the water. There is also a children’s playground on the beach.
Balatonföldvár Dog-Friendly Spa
The Balatonföldvár dog beach opened its doors on 2,500 square metres. It can be reached from the capital in up to an hour. Here, dogs and their owners can enjoy Lake Balaton in a large open area, under great conditions.
The water suddenly deepens, there is a specially designed ramp for the dogs to get into the water, but there are also shallower parts in the beach area.
It is worth noting that the beach can only be visited with regularly vaccinated and worm-free dogs, and it does not hurt to have the vaccination book on hand. Entrance is free.
Nyugati Free Beach (Balatonlelle)
In the middle of Balatonlelle, west of the boat station, there is a nearly two-kilometre-long free beach. You can rent pedal boats and kayaks, and there are several buffets for those who are hungry after enjoying a swim. There is a playground for the little ones, and at the harbour end of the beach, there is a huge slide for adrenaline seekers.
Ezüstpart Free Beach (Siófok)
The shoreline of Siófok, west of the Sió canal, is the Ezüstpart (Silver Beach). The long stretch has many restaurants and public toilets, but there are also showers, as well as sports courts and playgrounds.
Fonyód Dog Bath
Small dogs and large dogs fit in perfectly with each other on the beach in Fonyód. It is not officially a beach, so there is no changing room for the dog owners.
There is an entrance to the area, and puppies can only be brought along with a vaccination book. Admission is HUF 300 for students and HUF 500 for adults and dogs. It is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
There is a washbasin and a snack bar for the owners. However, there are not many trees to provide shade, which is something worth preparing for. Like other beaches, an immunity certificate is not required here either.
The beach is popular and, according to the unanimous opinion of dog lovers, provides excellent recreation for dogs and their owners.
Somosi Free Beach (Tihany)
The open beach with a narrow shore is a place for those who want to relax, as opposed to the Gödrös free beach not far from the entrance of the Tihany Peninsula. It is located close to the centre of the settlement, between the Tihany boat station and the ferry, and can be accessed on foot on a stepped road leading through a forest, but there is also a possibility of paid parking nearby.
If you want to get out of your house but do not know what to do, the answer is simple: go to the zoo. No matter where you are in Hungary, you are guaranteed to find a good zoo nearby. Going to the zoo is an ideal program alone, with friends, with family, or for couples. Listed below are some zoos you are guaranteed not to be disappointed with.
The Nyíregyházi Zoo is located in the Sóstó resort area near Nyíregyháza. One of the largest animal herds in Europe awaits visitors. The zoo also has its own hotel called Hotel Jungle. There is also a beach bath, a village museum, and a park forest nearby. The 32-hectare zoo has been welcoming guests since 1974. Among other things, it has the most bear species in the country and the largest collection of parrots. The purpose of the zoo is to preserve endangered species. It is worth enquiring because the zoo also offers various programs.
Sports, cultural and family programs can be found at the Győr Zoo. In the past, animals native to Hungary could be seen, but now, the range of animal species has been expanded. This is evidenced by the South American house right at the entrance. There is a strong emphasis on education in the Xantus János Zoo.
The Pécs Zoo is known for its many family programs, the feeding and presentation of species. Mammals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians all live here. The aquarium-terrarium in the main building has a 100,000-litre pool as well. The zoo has animals from all six continents. The zoo opened in 1960 has recently been completely renovated. With constantly changing exhibitions, they ensure that there is always something new to see.
The Veszprém Zoo is the most traditional rural zoo in Hungary. The zoo, located 15 kilometres from Lake Balaton, opened in 1958. One part of the park is located in a valley and the other on a hill. This makes Veszprém Zoo very specific. Various feedings and the Dino park are the highlights of the Veszprém Zoo experience. In addition, the Monkey House, the Elephant Park, and the Bird Flyer, which is also unique in Europe, attract many visitors.
Founded in 1866, the Budapest Zoo has the largest collection in Hungary. Until 1950, it was the only institution of its kind in Hungary. Every year, 1 million visitors come to the 18.4-hectare zoo. Six playgrounds, feedings, and the Seal Show provide a stunning experience. In addition to the representatives of the Hungarian wildlife, we can also meet exotic creatures. In 2013, even the area of the Budapest Amusement Park was added to it, further increasing the range of programs.
“A dog that’s continually pulling is baffling for owners who just need to go on a pleasant, relaxed walk.” However, if your dog seems to be dragging you on your everyday walks, it could be good for you to consider your options when it comes to dog walking supplies. A dog harness made specifically to dishearten pulling, for illustration, can assist you in control of your walk and progress your pup’s dog leash abilities. In addition, by employing a harness that doesn’t pull, you’ll be able to offer assistance to make strolls more agreeable and avoid your canine from harming herself.
Why Leash Pulling Can Be Unsafe to Your Dog
If your pup only wears a conventional dog collar, she can put a lot of pressure on her throat as she strains forward, particularly if you grasp the chain or yank it back. This kind of weight can harm your dog’s neck in any case of her size, but mainly if she belongs to a smaller breed.
Small dogs can do a lot of harm to their exceptionally delicate throats and trachea if they do the excessive pulling. Too much and extensive pulling can too lead to undesirable behaviors. Say your puppy pulls at whatever point she sees another pooch. On the off chance that you hold her back, snap the chain or drag her absence, she starts to relate that repulsive encounter with other canines. Dogs make affiliations with what’s happening in their environment and anything they see. So from their viewpoint, seeing another puppy predicts this repulsive response from their owners. Every time your puppy sees another dog, she gets to be uneasy and begins barking. A harness that doesn’t pull makes a different conclusion, the chain fight between you and your dog so you merely can have more worry-free and peaceful strolls.
What are No-Pull Harnesses?
The most popular no-pull dog harnesses have straps that cross over your pup’s shoulders and can make it secure at the center of your dog’s chest and behind her front legs. The dog harness will too have a hook slot in the front for the leash. Attach the leash to the front ring and start strolling; your dog should remain beside you to keep moving forward. If she does drag, the chain goes off to the side, not straight back, which directs your dog back towards you. That gives you a more prominent capacity to control and direct your puppy back to your side by applying a small weight, she includes.
Ideally, you need your dog to see the harness as a nice thing. Therefore, make sure to alter the straps before You slip it on your canine since you’ll be able to accidentally squeeze or make your pet awkward in case you alter the harness while it’s on your puppy. Moreover, you’ll get your pup utilized to any buckling or clipping sounds by presenting them before you put on its harness. Of course, once you slip the harness on, you’ll need to do some assist tweaking, so be sure to reimburse your pup with puppy treats during the method.
The Hungarian police have found a quite disturbing discovery last week in the apartment of a man who turned out was also wanted for arson when he ignited several piles of unwanted communal waste a few months back.
According to Police.hu, civilians have reported a suspicious car and a strange smell coming from said vehicle. When the police went ahead and investigated the call, they have found the rotting carcass of a dog inside the car.
The owner of the car is a 25-year-old man, Zsolt S. Based on suspicion the police have sent officers to the man’s apartment in Kőbánya to search the perpetrators home.
To their surprise, the investigators have found several other dead animals in the owner’s apartment Hvgreported.
Among the carcasses of animals, there were many species that are under protection in Hungary. The police have found several birds like a common buzzard, a song thrush, and even mammals like a red squirrel and even a deer.
According to the Hungarian police, some of these animals are illegal to possess even if they are already deceased.
Some of them are under protection and others are under the ownership of the Hungarian Hunters’ National Association. They pressed charges against the 25-year-old perpetrator for theft.
According to Hvg, since the man’s detention the investigators have also found out with the help of CCTV recordings, that
the man who have possessed the animal carcasses might have also been the perpetrator of arson a few month back during the waste disposal in Budapest.
In addition to theft, they have also charged Zsolt S. with vandalism and interrogated him. During the interrogation he confessed that he had caused all three fires but he had no explanation for collecting dead animals.
The wolf is a native predator in Hungary, and its resettlement is the result of natural processes. Cooperation between professional hunters and conservationists is essential, and it is also worth being aware of the ways in which livestock farmers can prevent damage from these large carnivores.
Sheep and calves are falling prey, and even a breeding bull worth HUF 1.2 million (€ 3,400) has disappeared. In addition to the perfectly legitimate complaints, it should also be mentioned that since the packs of wolves are not currently under hunting pressure, it is feared
that they may be attacking humans in the future.
In connection with the topic, WWF Hungary responded in writing to 24.hu. Dr László Patkó, a wildlife biologist, the program manager of WWF Hungary Large Carnivores, described the possibility and means of creating peaceful coexistence.
Large carnivore populations are growing across Europe. Species with a large range of motion can easily conquer new habitats where they then settle down. Wolves can also help vegetation regeneration and increase biodiversity indirectly and through their prey, but they can even reduce the number of collisions between vehicles and wild animals.
Packs of wolves have multiplied naturally in Europe, without artificial resettlement. The populations of their primary prey species (e.g. deer, wild boar) are growing across Europe, resulting in an increase in the number and size of wolf packs.
“When someone talks about wolf packs growing as a result of human intervention, they are correct. It is not just a matter of the animals returning as a result of direct help, but that rural human populations have moved to cities, eradication campaigns of historical times have lagged behind as a result of international protection, and populations of game species have strengthened. That much human help is enough for 16,000-17,000 wolves in Europe: there is no need for resettlement,”
says László Patkó.
In Hungary, wolves form breeding packs in the Bükk, the Aggtelek karst areas, and the Zemplén Mountains. Their permanent presence and growing stock can be expected in the future as well.
“Great predators commanding respect, like a wolf, can be scary in the eyes of some. But what is scary is not necessarily dangerous.”
In Europe, on average, there is one serious wolf attack per year, while in 2016 alone, dogs killed 45 people. Large carnivores attack humans only in exceptional cases, and these situations can be avoided in all cases.
By taking certain advice, we can also make human-wildlife coexistence more conflict-free. In Hungary, the grey wolf is a highly protected animal: its disturbance, capture or killing can only be allowed for nature conservation reasons or other similarly important public interest matters.
Damage can possibly occur to farmers, and the best solution is for them to try to avoid it. One can do this by contacting the relevant national park directorate and looking for solutions together.
The national park directorates, where possible, help the protection of farmers with costly tools in addition to expert advice.
Injury prevention information is not enough because livestock farmers incur costs by applying prevention methods (such as dog keeping, electric herding, and maintenance). By supporting the purchase of damage prevention tools, coexistence with large carnivores can be improved, and it would also be necessary to be able to compensate farmers for the damage they have suffered, despite the use of damage prevention methods.
The wildlife biologist highlights:
“There are a number of issues about the wolf that need to be worked on with different interest groups. And the goals of seemingly opposing groups are often shared. There is a need for a more transparent support system for livestock keepers based on damage prevention, for hunters to be more involved in monitoring these species, and for damage assessments to be carried out by trained, independent professionals.”
If you go to Budapest and have your favourite four-legged friend with you, you will not have to stay hungry because the Hungarian capital has a lot of places where you can take your dog with you. In this article, we have collected four restaurants in Budapest where your dog is also welcome.
Mazel Tov is a clean, pleasant place in the seventh district of Budapest. The restaurant is located in the middle of the historic Jewish Quarter. In the evening, there is a real garden party atmosphere in Mazel Tov. For those looking to break away from the downtown environment, this garden full of herbs and trees can be an ideal place. The Middle Eastern restaurant is open every day of the week for those looking to relax, whether they are walking on two or four legs.
Hokedli is primarily known for its vegetable dishes. Their goal is to show that meals that often become hated in school canteens can also be special and delicious. Hokedli makes everything from fresh ingredients and seasonal vegetables. Flour- and lactose-free, as well as vegan alternatives are also available. They have a varied selection of soups, vegetable dishes, and desserts. Dogs will surely love this place as a gift bone awaits them. After your meal, you can take a walk along Andrássy Avenue.
The Tereza Mexican Restaurant is also close to Andrássy Avenue and the Hungarian State Opera House. Tereza is not only a great dog-friendly place but also one of the best Mexican restaurants in Budapest. The kitchen is run jointly by Jorge Martinez and Áron Kelemen. Locally-made, authentic Mexican food awaits visitors. Tereza pampers guests with a wide selection of tortillas, guacamole, tacos, mezcal, and margarita.
We left a place full of desserts to the end. Naspolya Nassolda is home to healthy desserts. Hungary’s first raw vegan patisserie makes sweets made from fruits and seeds. Desserts are made without baking, cooking, or steaming, so the ingredients are put into the food raw. The end result is not only healthy but also delicious. The salty caramel cupcake and the glassy lemonade are a must. Fun fact: the founders of the restaurant were included in the Hungarian version of Shark Tank.
After purchasing a large litter box for their cat, owners experienced reduced mess around their box and less maintenance overall. Lots of people said that constantly cleaning up litter after their cat was exhausting, and that they had tried all sorts of things to contain the litter scatter and fling.
Practical Aspects of a Extra Large Litter Box In Your Home
As with any litter box, you’ll want to keep it in an area that can be easily cleaned and accessed by you. Even though it’s unlikely that the cat will bring litter out with it, some may still stick to their paws.
Placing the litter box in a safe and secure area your cat is familiar with is best. And if you can help it, putting it on a hard surface is optimal for overall sanitation and stability.
A few people say that jumbo litter boxes are more cumbersome to clean. This is not necessarily true, just because there is more surface area. But just wipe it down with antibacterial wipes or hose it off while changing the litter.
One final precaution is to measure the area you intend to use the litter box. The last thing you want is to order the box only to find that it won’t fit where you intended to place it. Measuring is essential.
It would have taken a miracle to save the life of the 25-year-old man who was stabbed on the evening of April 3, 2020, on a tram in Budapest. The 25-year-old man got into a dispute over protecting himself and his puppy.
The prosecution statement describes the exact details of what happened that night. The three defendants – a 44-year-old and a 39-year-old man, as well as a 30-year-old woman – lived as homeless people and spent most of their time in the VIII. district, in abandoned buildings. Of the three defendants, the men were cousins, while the woman was in a casual romantic relationship with the 44-year-old man at the time.
The defendants, as well as the girlfriend of the 39-year-old man, celebrated a birthday on April 3, 2020, and in the evening, they had already drunkenly decided to go to a tobacco shop to have another drink. They went out to the tram stop on Kőbányai út, where tram 28 heading towards Blaha Lujza Square arrived. They proceeded to board the vehicle.
The man who was later stabbed, his friend and the small dog of the later victim travelled on the same tram. The 44-year-old defendant stopped to pet the dog on the victim’s friend’s lap while he and his companions made mocking remarks about the puppy. The owner of the dog called on the man to stay away from his dog and to subject to the epidemiological rules in force. Upon hearing this, the accused got upset and spat on the face of the later victim.
During the dispute, the accused took out a knife and threatened the victim, who began to back away as his friend got up from the seat to stand up for his defence, but the accused’s partner hit the later victim’s friend on the face, who fell back into the chair, and the dog started running away. As the dog’s owner watched the runaway dog, the attacker stabbed him in the chest with a knife.
In response to hearing the sounds of the altercation, the tram driver stopped the tram and opened the doors. The defendants proceeded to jump off the tram and run away. The 44-year-old man handed the knife to his female companion, who hid it in a flowerpot. The still conscious victim got off the tram as well and even asked those around him to call an ambulance or look for his dog, but his condition worsened rapidly; he passed out and died on the spot, despite the ambulance arriving quickly.
The Metropolitan Attorney General’s Office accuses the 44-year-old man of multiple recidivism with the crime of homicide, his 39-year-old accomplice with criminal aid, and the 30-year-old woman with the crime of complicity.
The Attorney General’s Office proposes the imposition of a prison sentence against a 44-year-old man, a jail sentence against his male partner, and a suspended jail sentence for the female partner in the motion of the Attorney General’s Office. The two men are under arrest, and their female companion is under criminal supervision.
A large social collaboration started on Facebook to find Pepsi, the miniature pinscher. Fortunately, a lady eventually found her in a nursery yard. The dog was very frightened and skinny, probably has not eaten anything until they found it (for two days). He has been in much better shape ever since and has been taken to the victim’s friends.
According to the relevant rules of the newer stages of reopening, it is only possible to enter the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden with an immunity certificate. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to accept that fact.
The elephant statue adorning the entrance of the Budapest Zoo was defaced with red paint probably on Saturday morning. Péter Urfi of 444.hu was just passing by when police officers were at the scene.
The zoo has been open since May 1 and can be visited with an immunitycertificate only. Right on the first day, there was a hassle at the entrance.
A month ago, a man and a woman objected to the requirement of the plastic card proving protection at the gates. However, the staff of the zoo did not allow them to enter under the rules currently in force, and later, the police had to be summoned to the unrest.
At the time, an argument similar to the one now scribbled on the elephant was voiced. As you can see from the borsonline.hu video, according to a visibly upset man,
“It is discriminatory in a negative way”
that only cardholders are admitted.
444.hu sent questions to the Zoo- and the BRFK press office. The Zoo’s response has since been published. Spokesperson Zoltán Hanga wrote:
“In connection with the case, I can provide the information that at dawn today, an unknown perpetrator inscribed ‘discrimination’ in red paint on one of the statue elephants at the well-known main entrance of the Zoo. Of course, we notified the police, who have been at the scene ever since, and we looked at footage from surveillance cameras that also show the perpetrator.”
The main entrance of the zoo is a listed building, built in 1912, according to the plans of Kornél Neuschloss. At the scene, one can find that visitors to the Zoo are clearly outraged by what had happened.
BRFK responded to 444.hu’s question in the following way:
“In connection with your request, we would like to inform you that the Budapest Police Headquarters received a notification on May 29, 2021, at 8:36 a.m., that in District XIV of Budapest, at Állatkerti körút 6-12, the elephant statue on the left side of the main entrance of the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden was sprayed with paint. In connection with the case, the Budapest District XIV Police Headquarters ordered an investigation of an unknown perpetrator on the suspicion of vandalising a monument, and they conducted an on-site investigation. There have been no atrocities in this regard in recent weeks. ”
A subtenant left a huge, two-and-a-half-metre-long python behind after leaving the apartment he was renting.
Weirder and weirder things are happening in Hungary. Have you ever left your pet behind when you were moving from one place to another? It is highly unlikely; nevertheless, from the owner’s point of view, finding a cute little dog or cat in the apartment is not that bad. But what if you found a huge snake the size of a person? Would you believe your eyes?
This is what happened in Budapest to a Hungarian man, Robi, who rented out his apartment to someone. He reached out to borsonline.hu to tell his story.
Robi was very unlucky. He had experimented for a very long time with several tenants who caused him smaller or bigger headaches. “I was constantly renting out my place and bumping into people who either did not pay the rent on time or did not maintain the apartment and left it in improper conditions”.
Then he finally found Feri, who always paid right on time and took care of his property. Robi was very surprised and happy that after all this time, he saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
Many months flew by when, suddenly, Robi stopped receiving the rent.
“After one and a half years, he suddenly stopped paying. I called him in vain, as he did not pick up the phone. I was trying for an entire week but then decided to take matters into my own hands and went to my apartment.”
He went on explaining that not only had his tenant disappeared, but his key was unable to open the lock. He called a workman who disassembled it so that he could get into his own apartment.
When he entered, he could not believe his eyes.
The apartment was a mess: everything was dirty, trash was lying around the whole place, even the walls were covered in mould.
Then came the worst part. He saw something moving in the corner where there was a kind of wooden box. He looked into it and
that is when he saw a huge python casually relaxing on the bottom.
“I was scared! It’s not every day you encounter an animal like this,” he said.
When he called an expert to get rid of the animal, he was told he had found a huge, two-and-a-half-metre-long python that kills by strangling its prey, instead of biting it.
It was extremely hard to take the snake away as, probably being very hungry, it wound around the professional’s hand and started to squeeze it. Moreover, it managed to sting him in some way, causing his arm to bleed.
The unbelievable and scary story finally had a happy ending. Robi’s girlfriend saved the day by bringing a huge trash bag in which the python was taken away. Robi was very happy, although renovating the apartment took several weeks afterwards.
“After this unbelievable story, I decided to sell my property.” We are not surprised at all.
A man has been killed in a suspected shark attack on Tuesday off a popular beach on the mid-north coast of Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) state, rescuers and police said.
Emergency services were called to Tuncurry beach, more than 300 kms (186 miles) north of Sydney, after reports of the shark attack, NSW police said in a statement.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, suffered critical injuries to his upper right thigh after being attacked while surfing.
“Despite the best efforts of paramedics and bystanders at the scene, the man could not be resuscitated,” NSW Ambulance said in a tweet.
The incident would be Australia’s first fatal shark attack of the year, according to the Taronga Conservation Society, which collects shark attack data. Eight people were killed last year.
Tuncurry beach, also called the Nine Mile beach, and neighbouring Forster Main Beach have been closed.
Arthur, the 17-year old brown bear – registered as the largest in Europe – was shot during an illegally organised trophy hunt in a protected area near the village of Ozsdola in Székely Land. Prince Josef-Emanuel of Liechteinstein probably shot the protected animal.
According to the latest news, the case happened in March. A hunting company requested permission from the Ministry of Environment to shoot a young female bear that caused several damages in the farms of the surrounding village, Ozsdola. The permit was obtained; however, the hunters inadvertently shot another bear in the forest of Székely Land.
Arthur, the 17-year-old brown bear whose life was taken, was the most giant bear observed in Romania but probably also one of the largest in the European Union.
The brown bear is strictly protected in the European Union. According to Agent Green, the shot can only be used in serious cases if there is no alternative solution and the bear endangers human lives and property.
According to the Hungarian news portal Székelyföld,
the animal was shot by Josef-Emanuel, Prince of Liechtenstein, who paid € 7,000 for the hunt.
Due to the size differences of the two bears, environmentalists doubt that the prince mixed the two animals. As they commented: “It is clear that the prince did not come to solve the problem of the locals, but to take the greatest trophy home and put it on the wall”, adding that in this case, they are dealing with “poaching”.
Environmentalists are making serious allegations and calling for police and government intervention. As the news portal reports, the Environmental Guard had launched an investigation to determine whether Prince Josef-Emanuel of Liechtenstein had complied with the Ministerial Decree allowing the shooting of a female bear.
In line with Government Decree no. 194/2021. (IV. 26.), the institution home to Hungary’s first zoo outside the capital and one and only amusement park reopened today.
Under government regulations, the following conditions for visit shall apply until further notice:
entry shall only be granted to visitors with a valid immunity certificate and minors they accompany;
wearing a face mask is not mandatory but is recommended by the institution, especially when indoors;
amusement park attractions and all Animals in Action programs will be available, including pony rides and Catta Walk as usual;
regular hours shall apply, with the Zoo open every day from 9:00 to 18:00 and the Amusement Park open from 10:00 to 17:00 on weekdays and 18:00 on weekends and bank holidays;
Zoo and Amusement Park Passes purchased online during the closure are valid for one year from the date of reopening, and Annual Passes valid during the closure have been extended by the duration of the lockdown.
In order to ensure a quicker and more convenient entry by avoiding queuing, getting your tickets online is highly recommended. For buying your tickets on-site,
contactless payment methods are preferred but cash is still accepted.
Restrooms, amusement park rides and other high-traffic facilities shall be cleaned and sanitized with increased regularity. For enhanced general hygiene, hand sanitizer stations have been installed throughout the premises, both indoors and outdoors. Debrecen Zoo and Amusement Park is ever so grateful for all the patience and support from visitors and donors and looks forward to a full and unrestricted reopening.

Russia has produced the world’s first batch – 17,000 doses – of COVID-19 vaccines for animals, its agricultural regulator said on Friday.
Russia registered Carnivac-Cov in March after tests showed it generated antibodies against COVID-19 in dogs, cats, foxes and mink.
The first batch will be supplied to several regions of Russia, the regulator Rosselkhoznadzor said in a statement.
It said companies from Germany, Greece, Poland, Austria, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Lebanon, Iran and Argentina had expressed interest in purchasing the vaccine.
The World Health Organization has voiced concern over the risk of transmission of the virus between humans and animals. The Russian regulator has said the vaccine would be able to protect vulnerable species and thwart viral mutations.
“About 20 organisations are ready to negotiate registration and supply of the vaccine to their countries. The file for registration abroad, in particular in the European Union, is under preparation and will be promptly used for the registration process,” the Russian watchdog said.
Presumably, the 20-25% cost increase in the livestock and animal products market will result in a 10-12% growth in consumer prices.
As the Hungarian news portal Magyar Mezőgazdaság reports, both the pandemic and the bird flu impacted the poultry sector last year. However, the chicken population has grown despite the troubles. This can be explained by the fact that chicken and eggs are consumed on a daily basis by Hungarian families. These products will be of key importance both in Europe and globally.
According to the agricultural expert, ensuring the feed needs of domestic animal husbandry and animal products is a matter of national security. Therefore more attention should be paid to physical stocks in the future. For the time being, the only solution for producers to survive is to incorporate these cost increases into the price of their products, for which retail chains and consumers must be prepared.
As a result of the nearly 30% cost increase in the livestock and animal products market, a 10-12% increase can be expected in consumer prices.
Just like the catering industry, the poultry sector was also impacted negatively by the closure of hospitality establishments (hotel, restaurant, cafe). There was a significant decrease in the consumption of meat, eggs and goose liver.
The recovery of the sector will depend on the level of control over the pandemic and bird flu, as well as the restart of the tourism and hospitality sector.
Another significant problem is the lack of skilled workforce, for which the sector must be prepared in the long term. Currently, farms have two options: either adjust their production to the existing labour force or replace human labour. According to the expert, developing technology is the right way to build efficient and competitive companies and industries.
Hungary has been a member of the European Union since 2004, but its currency is still the Hungarian Forint and not the Euro. Hungarian Forint coins have been the official currency in Hungary since August 1, 1946. Only one side of the coins shows its value; the other side has an image, a symbol.
We use it every day, we hold it in our hands, but we may not be able to list which coin has which symbol. Especially few people know why some signs are on coins. The coins are produced by Magyar Pénzverő Zrt. on behalf of the Hungarian National Bank.
5 Forint— Great egret
On the back of the five Forint coin is the great egret bird. This 80 to 100-centimetre bird is about a pound. Besides Europe, it can also be found in North America, Africa, Asia and Australia. In Europe, it is most common in the Carpathian Basin in Hungary. This is partly why the great egret is on the coat of arms of Hungarian nature conservation. It is interesting that when the Forint was introduced, the five Forints were the largest denomination. Now, since there is neither 1 nor 2 Forints, it has been the smallest valid payment. The great egret is also on the New Zealand $2 coin.
10 Forint, 100 Forint— Coat of arms of Hungary
At this point, I have to cheat a bit with the order, as the Hungarian coat of arms can be found on the back of both the 10 Forint and the 100 Forint coins. The Hungarian coat of arms is one of the main symbols of Hungary. The coat of arms contains several symbols, most of which date back to medieval Hungarian history. The banding on the left side of the coat of arms can be connected to the Árpád house, while at the top of the coat of arms is the sacred crown. The unique feature of the 100 Forint coin is the outer silver-white ring. While it is interesting about the 10 Forint, its shape and weight are similar to the Croatian 2 Kunas coin. The head of a Croatian parking company admitted that 10 Forint coins were found in the vending machines several times.
20 Forint— Steppe iris
It is located on dry steppes and forest edges. In addition to Hungary, it can also be found in Romania, Moldova, Italy, Slovakia and Ukraine. The 10-30 centimetre flower opens in April and May. Its flowers come in shades of purple, dark purple, or violet-blue. This is a rare and protected plant. Its nature conservation value is HUF 100,000 (€ 280).
50 Forint— Saker falcon
The saker falcon is a large bird of prey. It is native to Europe and Asia. The 50-centimetre bird has played an important role in the Hungarian religion. Some believe that the Turul in the legend was probably a saker falcon. This bird is nesting in the Carpathian Basin and is a highly protected and endangered species.
200 Forint— Chain Bridge
The highest value Hungarian coin currently in circulation is the 200 Forint. On the back of the coin can be seen the most iconic bridge of the Hungarian capital, Budapest. This is Hungary newest coin, as it has been in circulation for just over 10 years. The Széchenyi Chain Bridge was named after István Széchenyi, who initiated the construction of the bridge. This was the first bridge that connected the two parts of Budapest, Buda and Pest. The Chain Bridge is one of the most defining symbols of Budapest and the whole of Hungary. By the vote of the Hungarian National Bank in 2008, more than half of the voters chose the Chain Bridge to be at the back of the new coin.
The Hungarian National Bank creates individual coins on certain occasions. These unique commemorative symbols are most frequently put on the 50 Forint coin. However, there are 10 Forint coins with the portrait of Attila József, 20 Forint coins with the image of Ferenc Deák and 100 Forint coins with Lajos Kossuth’s picture on the back.
Of the 50 Forint coin, however, there are several types. A particular coin was issued on the anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and the War of Independence, on the occasion of the Hungarian Division 1/A Hockey World Championship, on the occasion of the Hungarian FINA World Championship, as well as on the occasion of the Hungarian Wrestling and Fencing World Championships. It was also made in memory of the organised fire department, in honour of the Year of the Families and on the occasion of the anniversary of the Hungarian Red Cross. These unique commemorative coins are typically produced in a maximum of 1-2 million copies.
