Artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized numerous industries worldwide, and Hungary’s entertainment sector is no exception. With the rise of AI technologies, digital platforms in Hungary have experienced transformative changes, fostering innovation and reshaping content creation, distribution, and audience engagement.

AI-Driven Content Creation: A New Era of Creativity

One of the most visible impacts of AI on Hungary’s entertainment landscape is in content creation. AI tools, such as generative algorithms and natural language processing, enable filmmakers, musicians, and Vulkan casino developers to push creative boundaries. Hungarian filmmakers, for instance, are using AI-driven software to streamline post-production tasks like

  • editing;
  • visual effects;
  • sound design.

In music, AI tools are assisting Hungarian artists in composing melodies, generating lyrics, and experimenting with new soundscapes. Startups in Budapest are exploring AI’s potential in creating personalized soundtracks, catering to individual preferences. These innovations not only enhance efficiency but also provide creators with ways to express their artistic visions.

Personalized Audience Experiences

Digital platforms in Hungary, such as local streaming services and online cinemas, are leveraging AI to enhance user experiences. AI algorithms analyze user behavior, preferences, and viewing patterns to recommend personalized content. This tailored approach increases user engagement, retention, and satisfaction.

Hungarian streaming platforms, inspired by global giants like Netflix and Spotify, are incorporating machine learning models to suggest movies, shows, and music that align with individual tastes. Such personalization creates a deeper connection between users and the platform, fostering loyalty and driving subscription growth.

AI-Powered Localization and Accessibility

Localization is a crucial aspect of entertainment in Hungary, a country with a rich linguistic and cultural heritage. AI-powered tools are transforming how content is adapted for Hungarian audiences. Automated translation and dubbing technologies use machine learning to deliver high-quality localized content efficiently. Additionally, AI is improving accessibility through features like real-time captioning and audio descriptions. This ensures that entertainment platforms are inclusive, catering to people with hearing or visual impairments.

Transforming Marketing and Distribution

AI is also revolutionizing the marketing and distribution strategies of entertainment companies in Hungary. Predictive analytics and AI-driven insights enable firms to identify market trends and audience preferences, ensuring better-targeted campaigns. Social media platforms, integrated with AI tools, help creators

  • engage directly with fans;
  • analyze feedback;
  • refine promotional strategies.

AI in Gaming: Hungary’s Growing Tech Hub

Game developers are using AI to create smarter non-player characters (NPCs), realistic environments, and dynamic storytelling. Studios in Budapest are at the forefront of integrating AI technologies, making Slots Vulkan more immersive and engaging. Moreover, AI-powered analytics tools help gaming companies track player behavior and preferences, allowing personalized gaming experiences.

Challenges and Opportunities

Despite its transformative impact, AI adoption in Hungary’s entertainment industry is not without challenges. Ethical concerns around data privacy, copyright issues, and the potential loss of human creativity need to be addressed. However, these challenges also present opportunities for Hungarian policymakers, creators, and tech companies to collaborate and establish frameworks that balance innovation with ethical considerations.

Orbán cabinet: Hungary-US political relations set to enter ‘golden age’

Hungarian-American political relations are set to enter a “golden age” with the election of Donald Trump as the next US president, and relations between Hungary and the US could be better than ever before, the foreign minister said on Tuesday.

Hungarian-American political relations to have a bright future

The ministry cited Péter Szijjártó telling a joint press conference with his Georgian counterpart in response to a question about his US visit on the previous day that they had held lengthy talks with President-elect Trump, designate National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and designate Co-Chair of the Department of Government Efficiency Elon Musk lasting about three hours.

“Of course we also congratulated the president-elect because this was the first in-person meeting between the prime minister and the president-elect since the election,” he added.

“The prime minister and the president-elect maintained relations also during the time when Donald Trump was not the president, during the election campaign, and they have talked on the phone several times since,” Szijjártó said. “It is completely natural that they hold consultations regularly.”

Szijjártó said that what further increased the importance of the meeting was that as a result of the transformation of the global economy, digitalisation and AI could play crucial roles in determining a country’s future place in the global economy. Musk and the global empire of companies linked to him play a serious role in spreading new technology, he added.

Szijjártó also said that currently there was an opportunity for better than ever political relations to develop between Hungary and the US.

He added that it was important that until January 20, 2025, nobody in the US or Europe should make irresponsible decisions that could make it impossible to create peace and that would set off irreversible developments.

Considering that the war is still ongoing, the efforts of Hungary’s peace mission must be enhanced, he said. “Last week the prime minister visited the Holy Father. I was in Moscow, in Washington, and held meetings in Malta. Now we travelled to Florida with the prime minister and at least two more events will take place this week that form part of the peace mission, one tomorrow and another one the day after tomorrow,” he said.

Hungarian defence minister: ‘Blackmailers’ failed to thwart operation of Defence Purchase Agency

“Blackmailers” have failed to obstruct the work of the Defence Procurement Agency (VBU), the defence minister told parliament’s defence and law enforcement committee on Tuesday, adding press reports suggesting that procurements had faltered as a result were wrong.

Hungarian defence minister talks about ‘blackmailers’

Socialist lawmaker Tamás Harangozó and Jobbik MP László György Lukács initiated the hearing of defence minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky and Norbert Tajti, the director-general of the Military National Security Service, pointing to press reports that the VBU had suffered an “unprecedented attack constituting a severe risk to national security”. Harangozó complained that the committee had not been briefed on the attack.

Fidesz MP Lajos Kósa noted that the national security committee has been briefed on the case.

Szalay-Bobrovniczky said that cyberattacks were a frequent occurrence, and the group that attacked VBU had recently obtained similar data from the authority’s Czech counterpart. As an independent company, VBU is responsible for the security of its own IT system, which was not connected to that of the Armed Forces, the Defence Ministry or the Military National Security Service, he said.

This, the defence minister added, was a guarantee that no data pertaining to military capacity or national security had been divulged.

An assessment of the exact data stolen is under way, he said, adding that the data on procurements leaked so far had been in the public domain before the attack.

“The government neither negotiates with criminals nor pays them,” he said, adding that an international investigation is under way. He noted that he had also launched an inquiry and removed the then-head of the agency. The new head of VBU, Major General Attila Simon, has a background in special operations, he added.

Revolut’s Hungarian expansion: Hiring in progress for local branch

revolut fintech company hungarian branch

Revolut, one of the world’s fastest-growing fintech companies, is taking concrete steps towards establishing a branch in Hungary. With over 1.5 million users already in the country, the company is now actively seeking professionals to build its local workforce, signalling a strong commitment to expanding its presence in the Hungarian market.

The expansion is official

For some time, Revolut has been delivering its services to Hungarian users from abroad. However, that is about to change as the company is now in the process of setting up a local office. The news was initially hinted at by Antoine Le Nel, Revolut’s Growth and Marketing Director, back in August 2023, and the company’s plans have now progressed further. According to a report by Revb.hu, the fintech company is currently recruiting staff for key roles in its future Hungarian branch. Positions like Legal Counsel and Regulatory Compliance Manager are being advertised on LinkedIn, and the company is on the lookout for skilled experts with significant experience in these fields.

Balázs Györffy, Revolut’s Manager of Expansion, also confirmed these developments on social media, stating that the company is working at full speed to establish its branch in Hungary. This move is part of the company’s broader global expansion, which includes efforts to enter other key markets, such as India.

Why a branch, not a subsidiary?

Revolut has clarified that they are opening a branch in Hungary, not a subsidiary. This strategic choice means that the company will not apply for a Hungarian banking license. Instead, the services provided to Hungarian customers will continue to operate under Revolut’s Lithuanian banking license. As a result, customer deposits will still be insured through Lithuania’s deposit protection scheme.

That said, opening a local branch will bring specific advantages for Hungarian users. For instance, Revolut plans to offer Hungarian IBAN numbers, simplifying salary transfers and local transactions. This could also enhance access to immediate domestic transfers, something currently limited by the international nature of Revolut’s operations. Additionally, the company will be providing Hungarian-speaking customer service, replacing the existing international support team.

Navigating regulatory challenges

revolut card payment
Photo: depositphotos.com

In the past, the Hungarian National Bank had encouraged Revolut to establish a subsidiary, which would have allowed the company to join Hungary’s National Deposit Insurance Fund. However, the fintech company chose not to pursue this option, citing it as a strategic decision. Tamás Léder, Revolut’s Hungarian country manager, explained that while the company decided against becoming a subsidiary, they are fully committed to growing their operations in the country.

The company has been handling the Hungarian government’s evolving tax and fee structure, including the recent introduction of transaction taxes on currency exchanges. Since October 2024, conversions have been subject to a higher levy. Despite these regulatory changes, Revolut has continued to absorb these costs rather than passing them onto customers, though this may not be sustainable in the long term.

What does this mean for customers?

The establishment of a local branch is a significant step forward for Revolut’s users in Hungary. In addition to Hungarian IBAN numbers, customers will benefit from faster and more efficient transactions, especially when dealing with local banks. This will particularly help the many Hungarians who already use Revolut to receive their salaries. The current process, which involves transferring funds to a Lithuanian account, can result in delays and additional fees. Hungarian IBAN numbers will solve these issues, making Revolut a more viable option as a primary bank account for many users.

Furthermore, the new branch will provide local customer support, improving the user experience and offering more direct solutions for handling complaints and queries. This level of localised service is expected to increase the company’s popularity and user base in Hungary, which it aims to grow to 2 million by 2025.

Laser show to bring Budapest’s iconic Liberty Statue to life

yettel citadel liberty statue laser show

On 11 October, Budapest will witness a spectacle unlike anything before: the city’s most iconic landmark, the Liberty Statue, will come to life with the help of technology.

Budapest’s skyline is dotted with many famous monuments and buildings like the Parliament, Vajdahunyad Castle, and the Buda Castle complex. Since July, however, one of these iconic sites, the Liberty Statue atop Gellért Hill, has been shrouded in scaffolding and hidden behind barriers, Rakéta writes. But now, in a dazzling drone show organised by Yettel, the monument will be “freed” from its confinement, if only for a short time.

The best viewing spot for this event is Fővám Square, where visitors can enjoy the extraordinary light show, complete with a musical accompaniment. If weather conditions are unfavourable, the event will be rescheduled to 13 October.

Citadel renovation underway

Visual plan. Photo: FB/Nemzeti Hauszmann Program

The renovation project aims to transform the Citadel, long seen as a symbol of oppression by many Hungarians, into an accessible site for visitors. For the first time, the historical fortress will have multiple entry points, as opposed to the single entrance that existed until now, Economx reports. New paths have been created by breaking through the fortress walls near the cannon tower in both the northern and southern directions and behind the Liberty Statue itself, making the Citadel easier to access from three sides.

A new staircase has already been built behind the Liberty Statue, and the first piece of cladding has been placed on the wall bordering the path. To ensure durability, the white limestone from Süttő used for the walls and the red limestone from Tardos capping the structures have been treated with a special coating. Regarding the planned cross atop the statue’s pedestal, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony has expressed his disapproval, calling it an unnecessary, divisive issue that does nothing to help all residents feel at home in the city.

The “bottle opener” of Budapest

The Liberty Statue, standing 14 meters tall and reaching a height of 40 meters with its pedestal, is one of Budapest’s most recognisable symbols. Located atop the 235-meter peak of Gellért Hill at the Citadel’s southeastern bastion, the monument, a woman holding a palm branch symbolising victory and peace, was created by sculptor Zsigmond Kisfaludi Strobl in 1947. Initially named the Liberation Monument, it commemorated the Soviet army’s victory over the German forces in Budapest.

After the fall of socialism and a re-evaluation of Soviet “liberation,” the monument was slightly altered. The 4-meter statue of a Soviet soldier holding a machine gun, which once stood in front of the monument, was removed, and the inscription on the pedestal was changed, giving the Liberty Statue new meaning. Despite these changes, the female figure representing freedom quickly became one of Budapest’s key symbols, even earning the nickname “the bottle opener” due to its shape in local slang.

Liberty Statue to come to life with technology

For more details and updates about the laser show, you can visit the event’s Facebook page. The organisers at Yettel have described the programme as follows:

“Budapest is not just a city, it’s our playground. The city lights, the roar of the metro, the clatter of the trams, and all the unforgettable moments spent together—that’s what makes it truly ours! And of course, there are iconic figures in this city! One of our favourites? The Liberty Statue! She’s witnessed countless stolen kisses, knows the most secrets, and hears every friendly laugh and argument.

But lately, she’s been feeling left out, fenced off in isolation, cut off from the bustling city life. She deserves some freedom! How about bringing her back to life in a whole new dimension, high in the sky? Join us at Budapest’s most extreme drone show, where technology will awaken the towering statue of Gellért Hill!

AI focus of Tech Week in Budapest

Hungary is hosting Tech Week—Forum for Competitiveness and Technology, focusing on artificial intelligence, as part of its presidency of the Council of the European Union.

In the framework of the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Ministry of National Economy of Hungary is preparing a major event called TechWeek focusing on the most advanced and emerging technologies that are crucial in shaping our virtual and non-virtual existence.

The event will take place between 30 September and 1 October 2024 in Budapest, in magnificent venues and with high-level guests. EU and non-EU countries are expected to be represented at ministerial and state secretarial levels, while most of the world’s emerging technology companies will be present at CEO and senior management levels.

Richárd Szabados, the state secretary for SMEs and technology at the National Economy Ministry, said on Tuesday that the forum addresses the advantages and challenges AI presents for businesses and the economy and explores its potential to boost competitiveness. He added that it also highlights the legal environment and the implementation of the EU’s recently approved AI Act.

He said AI has become a “fixture of everyday life” and has already demonstrated how it can improve competitiveness and efficiency.

Deputy State Secretary Szabolcs Szolnoki said Hungary believes the AI Act provides a strong legal framework for the safe and responsible use of AI.

He pointed to AI’s use in a number of local success stories, including its application in warehouse technology for haulier Waberer’s, soft drink production for Hell Energy and the operation of the ZalaZONE vehicle proving ground.

Péter Fekete, the CEO of ICT group 4iG, said a strong cooperation between the government, private sector and scientific players was necessary to promote the broader use of AI.

Lucilla Sioli, the director of the EU AI Office, said the goal of the EU’s AI Act was to establish a harmonised internal market for AI, while promoting its broader use.

AI Summit Budapest 2024: innovations in artificial intelligence draw record crowds

Double standards again? iPhone 16 will be different in Hungary

The newest iPhone 16 will be significantly different in Hungary and Europe than in the United States. The reason is the divergent legal environment.

According to Tom’s Guide, the iPhone 16 series will bring us a lot of innovations, and we only have to wait a few more days for Apple to reveal the new device. However, this will be the first time that the producer will make two different variants of the phone complying with differing rules in North America and the European Union.

Apple is to announce four different models on 9 September: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, thanks to a new law passed in the European Union, the iPhone 16 will be different in Hungary than in e.g. North America.

“The EU’s Digital Market Act (DMA) is a pro-competition law that stipulates large tech companies (so-called “gatekeepers”) can’t lock their customers into particular pieces of hardware or software to foster competition”, Tom’s Guide wrote. Partly, that is why Apple moved away from Lightning and implemented USB-C on the iPhone 15 series. As a result, even the appearance of the phones in North America and Europe will be different.

AI features will be missing from the new iPhone in Hungary

“For example, in Europe, the iPhone 16 will arrive with a Default Apps Section where users can uninstall any stock browser, mail app or payment platform and install a different one of their choosing. European users will also be able to install third-party app stores like AltStore that’ll easily let them reintroduce Fortnite to their iPhone”, the media outlet highlighted.

Furthermore, Apple will not make Apple Intelligence features available in the European Union due to the DMA. “Due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act, we do not believe that we will be able to roll out three of these [new] features — iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements and Apple Intelligence — to our EU users this Year”, the company wrote in a June statement.

Apple Intelligence is the company’s suite of AI-enabled tools and one of the biggest reasons for this year’s update. Thanks to this, the new phone will have an A18 or A18 Pro chipset and at least 8GB RAM.

Hungarian astronauts trained in isolation, sleep deprived, and with maths problems

hungarian astronauts ferencz orsolya

The Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research has shared details of the rigorous training undergone by Hungarian astronaut candidates, outlining a series of challenging tasks they needed to complete to be selected. She also discussed Hungary’s future in the space industry and her expectations for the Hungarian EU presidency regarding European space policy.

In an interview with Index, Orsolya Ferencz, a space researcher, Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research, and head of Hungary’s European Space Agency (ESA) delegation, spoke about space research in Hungary and the tests Hungarian astronaut candidates underwent during training.

Hungary joins the space industry

Since 2018, the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has overseen the Hungarian space programme. In its 2021 Space Strategy, the Ministry stated that the country should open up to space technology development. While Hungary is not a major power in space exploration, neither is the European Union, Ferencz noted. “It is very difficult to get into this club [of space powers],” she admitted.

Indeed, Hungary cannot enter the sector on its own, making bilateral and multilateral agreements essential to realise the significant benefits of space exploration, according to Ferencz. Professional knowledge and research facilitation are also crucial.

“I am very happy that more and more people are now ambitious about the Hungarian space industry, which shows the success of the work carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in recent years,”

Ferencz said. She added, “It is no secret that Hungary would like to have, if not a say, at least a look into the big boys’ game. Our realistic aim should be to get many more than the current two or three Hungarian SMEs to become suppliers to the big companies.”

For Hungary to establish its role as a supplier in the market, it must produce equipment for the European Space Agency’s scientific missions. It is also encouraging that companies, universities, and research institutes are increasingly able to apply for and participate in European space missions and research.

However, participation in space exploration requires financial backing: in 2018, the budget for space research totalled EUR 5.1 million. By comparison, in 2024, the budget for ESA programmes alone will be EUR 32 million.

Hungarian astronauts to go to the International Space Station

Hungarian astronauts could be on board the International Space Station as soon as late 2024 or 2025, reports Index. The candidates have undergone more than a year of training, including a six-day test jointly developed by Semmelweis University and the Counter-Terrorism Centre. Ferencz explained that the test assessed both the physical and mental stamina of the candidates, who had to spend 144 hours locked in a 48-square-metre container under constant professional observation.

“During this time, they could only crawl from one room to another through small holes. The four Hungarian astronaut candidates had an extremely hectic schedule: for example, alerts at night, or running practices, after which they immediately had to solve maths problems.”

The practice aimed to simulate everyday life on the International Space Station. As Ferencz explained, the 144 hours spent in this stressful environment was a good way to assess the candidates’ mental performance and their ability to adapt to life in space. “On the International Space Station, you cannot pick and choose your travelling companions and you often have to act quickly in stressful situations.”

One of the Hungarian astronauts, Tibor Kapu, recalled, “We had a very serious agenda and timetable to follow. After a day or two, we were introduced to both food shortages and sleep deprivation. This was to bring out the stress factors that we could then measure, to make sure that our trainers saw that we could function well in such a situation.”

Recruitment and the future of EU space regulation

Ferencz also discussed her hopes to start addressing the EU space regulation dossier during the Hungarian EU presidency, highlighting the growing need for European-level regulation and cooperation in space exploration.

“Hungary’s position is that the EU member states should jointly develop their space capabilities because Europe is only one player in this global field,” she said.

Comparing the current state of the space industry to the air traffic revolution of the 20th century, Ferencz said space could provide career opportunities for future generations as more industries and research focus on space.

In Hungary, the HUNOR Programme provides opportunities for the selection and training of future astronauts. HUNOR collaborates with the European Space Agency, NASA, Axiom Space, Semmelweis University, the Hungarian Defence Forces, the Air Force, and the Counter-Terrorism Centre.

Incredibly successful international clothes marketplace comes to Hungary

The Romanian start-up began its operation in March 2023 and has reached EUR 3.2 million in traffic since then. More than 2,000 clothes shops joined them from Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. The international clothes marketplace is now ready to conquer Hungary!

B2B international clothes marketplace comes to Hungary

According to origo.hu, Unfrosen offers more than 100,000 quality clothes products for purchaser boutiques. It is a B2B online platform which helps small clothes chops acquire quality products from even leading trademarks.

Joining them is favourable for boutiques because it makes it possible to order products of high demand for a lower price. That is because the online platform allows access to previous collections. As a result, it reduces clothes waste, which is a global problem. According to estimates, 40% of the clothes remain in the stores because of the continuous overproduction. That means the fashion industry is the world’s 4th biggest polluter.

The EU banned the destruction of unsold clothes in end-2023. Thus, the Romanian start-up fills a market gap, helping clothes shops and customers buy cheap quality clothes that would otherwise become waste.

Romanian start-up may revolutionise clothes purchases in Hungary

Among the purchasers in partnership with Unfrosen, we can find three of the ten biggest European clothes trade companies. Moreover, 5 of the world’s top 50 fashion trademarks are among their partners.

In Hungary, there are more than 200 boutiques among its purchasers. That number is expected to increase to 500-1,000 in the next 12 months. Boutiques partnering with them will have a wider choice of quality clothes. Therefore, they might become more competitive in the market.

Hungarian Defence Minister: Hungary to become self-sufficient in production of 30mm shells

Hungary will be self-sufficient from now on in the production of 30mm medium-calibre shells, Hungarian Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said at the official inauguration of Rheinmetall’s ammunition plant in Várpalota, in western Hungary, on Monday.

Hungarian Defence Minister talks bout self-sufficiency

Hungarian Defence Minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky said few ammunition plants in Europe matched the one in Várpalota in quality, adding that the plant will also make ammunition for the armoured infantry fighting vehicles manufactured in Zalaegerszeg.

The plant in Várpalota will guarantee the quality of Hungary’s defence industry, as well as the safety of those living in the area, while also creating a lot of new jobs, the minister said. Some 50 people will be working at the factory, but headcount will increase to several hundred as production ramps up, he added.

The plant will be expanded with further elements over the coming months and years, and will also manufacture 155mm calibre artillery shells in addition to 120mm tank ammunition, he said.

The Hungarian Defence Minister said the Russia-Ukraine war had demonstrated that “nothing is as important as having everything needed for battle at our disposal.”

“Cutting-edge technology is indispensable, but not enough to fight successfully, but if there’s ammunition, there’s also success,” the minister said.

He said Europe had recognised that it could not remain idle, but had to completely rebuild its defence industry capacities, and specifically ammunition production. The supply of ammunition to Ukraine by European countries, he added, had significantly reduced their strategic munitions reserves, and the European defence industry could barely keep up with the increased demand.

Hungarian Defence Minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky said Hungary was also ahead of “its European Union friends and allies”, arguing that the plans for the Várpalota plant had been completed well before the start of the war and construction had gotten under way quickly. This, he added, had resulted in the emergence of a defence industry in Hungary in the form of factories employing “a Hungarian workforce with high-tech knowledge” which greatly reduced the country’s military dependence.

Armin Papperger, Rheinmetall’s chairman and chief executive, said the company was planning to export not just medium calibre ammunition, but also calibres up to 155mm globally. He said the Várpalota plant is capable of producing more than 240,000 rounds of tank ammunition a year.

He said the 30mm calibre ammunition plant was a 300 million euro investment, but Rheinmetall is investing a total of half a billion euros in Várpalota through a German-Hungarian joint venture, as it will have to fulfill a 54 billion euro order stock.

Hungarian defence minister: All wars are a result of human decisions

Szalay-Bobrovniczky minister hungary defence

All wars start as a result of human decisions, the defence minister said at the inauguration of the Armed Forces’ new multi-mission air defence radars in Veszprém, in western Hungary, on Friday.

“Times are tough, Europe today is preparing for war,” Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said.

The minister said more and more western European leaders were making remarks about the steps that needed to be taken to continue the war in Ukraine and the amount of ammunition and weapons that needed to be sent. There were also more and more remarks about the possibility of sending soldiers, he added.

He said that at first, there had only been talk of sending helmets to Ukraine, which was followed by artillery systems, ammunition, combat vehicles and fighter jets. Now, he added, they were talking about which NATO or European Union member state would send troops on training missions to Ukraine’s territory.

The minister said Hungary and Europe’s interest lay in putting a stop to this process, and this required strength, both in elections and on the part of the military. This was why, he added, the government had accelerated its military upgrades.

Szalay-Bobrovniczky said the Hungarian Armed Forces and its air defence capabilities would be given a boost “which was tried and tested” in combat conditions in Israel.

These multifunctional 3D radar systems, together with Norway’s NASAMS air defence systems and the four additional Gripen fighter jets purchased recently by Hungary and other equipment, “will make up the shield that guarantees the security of the Hungarian people”, the minister said.

Pietro Mazzei, CEO of Rheinmetall Canada, praised the partnership between the defence industry and the Hungarian government.

He said Rheinmetall had been able to establish an assembly, integration and testing base in Hungary that had resulted in the equipment that has been delivered.

Mazzei thanked the Armed Forces for not only devoting time to learning the technology, but also integrating it into their everyday operations.

According to press material distributed at the event, the ELM-2084 multifunctional radar is capable of supporting airspace monitoring and missile interception or artillery air defence operations.
