Get ready for the most exciting winter programme in Budapest!
As the Christmas countdown begins, brace yourself for the spectacular return of the Budapest light tram, pirouetting through the city with festive flair. And guess what’s making a grand comeback after a three-year hiatus? The Santa Claus Express, revving its engines to sprinkle extra joy on the season!
Christmas lights in the capital’s nightlife
The Light Tram, a true gem in Budapest’s Christmas treasure trove, has been stealing hearts – locals and tourists alike – for years. Decorated with twinkling lights, the tram offers a delightful journey, waltzing past iconic landmarks like the Parliament and along the scenic Danube.
The Light Tram begins its luminous journey on the first day of December, gracefully navigating the city until 7 January. On Friday, 1 December, at 6 p.m., it kicks off its festive route from Sport Street, featuring a special event organised by the Budapest Transport Company.
All passengers are welcome aboard at the standard fare, requiring nothing more than a single ticket or a season pass. You can follow the exact timetable on the Light Tram’s Facebook page.
The Santa Claus Express is steaming in
Meanwhile, breaking its three-year silence, the Santa Claus Express is chugging back into action this year in the Railway Historical Park. Families can bask in the festive spirit from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Hold onto your Santa hats because this itinerary is a festive rollercoaster: concerts that warm your heart, gingerbread decorating that unleashes your inner artist, and Christmas ornament crafting that turns you into Santa’s little helper. On December 2nd, not once but twice, the train departs from Budapest’s Western Railway Station, promising a magical ride in both morning and afternoon sessions. All aboard this express train to Christmas bliss – it’s time for a jolly journey into Hungarian winter wonderland!
