The ski resorts are already open in Hungary
Although the ski season has started late in Hungary in 2016, resorts are likely to be open now in January. Tickets on the weekend can be relatively cheap, but it’s still better if we go on weekdays as the prices might get lower, and the places are not as crowded as on Saturdays and Sundays. Take a look at these resorts that penzcentrum.hu collected, and plan your next ski trip!
After a mild winter the real cold might arrive in the next couple of days (the temperature is likely to drop below -10°C) which is good news for those who love skiing as the Hungarian ski resorts are going to be open as well.
Tamás Erbeszkorn, spokesperson for the Mátraszentistván ski resort, told Pénzcentrum that, contrary to the previous years, the weather was not cold enough for skiing during the Christmas holiday, and that, although the season usually lasts for 90 days, it can be a little shorter this year. However, if the weather stays cold, the resort might be open until late March.
Spokesperson of Nordica Eplény Ski Arena, Bálint Ebele, said that as soon as the temperature drops below 0°C they start the snow cannons and the slopes open to the public.
While the bigger resorts are already open the smaller ones are still waiting for natural snow. Always check if the place is open before you go on a ski trip!
Buying a ticket for two, three or more days usually saves money, but some resorts offer season tickets as well. You don’t have to go on consecutive days, but simply when you want to, as long as your ticket is valid. For ski lovers with a tight schedule this could be a perfect option.
The average price of an adult ticket for a single day is usually between 5000-6000 HUF, but it depends on the day, on the resort, and on the slopes you want to use. Besides the ticket, take any additional cost into account, such as gas, or bus/train tickets, renting (if you don’t own a pair of skis), food, beverages, etc. Always check the given resorts’ website for more information!
Here are a couple of popular resorts with ticket prices and their distance from Budapest.
