These are the most dangerous roads in Hungary
Driving requires concentration, but there are places where you need to pay extra attention if you want to avoid an accident. In the following article, we show you which Hungarian counties have the highest number of recorded accidents and which roads have the most fatalities.
The more traffic, the more accidents
In Q1 2022, turnover increased by 22 percent. During this period, there were 2,793 road traffic accidents that resulted in personal injury. This is 13 percent more than a year earlier. However, it was fewer than in the same period in 2020 and 2019.
Fatalities increased by 4.8 percent, serious injuries increased by 15 percent and minor injuries increased by 12 percent. Nearly a quarter more accidents were caused by drunk drivers. According to the Central Statistical Office, 3,724 people were injured and 98 died. In addition, 899 people suffered severe injuries.

Where did the accidents occur?
There has been a significant increase in the number of accidents on motorways. Drivers were responsible for 93 percent of accidents, writes vezess.hu. The most common cause was overspeeding. This accounted for 33 percent of all accidents, while 29 percent were due to failure to give way. The number of accidents caused by motorcyclists decreased, but the number of accidents caused by cars and cyclists increased. 24 percent more accidents were caused by drunk drivers.
Drunk driving accidents accounted for 8.8 percent of all accidents.
The number of accidents on motorways increased. The M5 highway had the highest number of accidents on average, while the M6 had the lowest. Pest county had the highest number of accidents, followed by Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Bács-Kiskun counties.
According to the latest available data, Veszprém County has the highest number of accidents resulting in injury or death. There have been 54 accidents between sections 25-26 of the 82 in three years. There were many accidents on the M7 motorway in the Székesfehérvár area. Other dangerous roads are the main road 4, the M3 and the M1 motorway. The congested M0 motorway also saw a number of accidents.
According to the experience of Magyar Közút, in general, any accident could be avoided by driving carefully, observing the speed limit rules and keeping the following distance, writes hellovidek.hu.

Errm, it’s not the roads that are dangerous, it is the useless and dangerous Hungarian drivers that are the problem. Probably the worst drivers in Europe.
Maybe some accidents and injuries could be reduced if the government were to increase the quality of their roads and do proper repairs instead of making patches. We have the highest cost of any country in the region for annual vignettes but the poorest roads with the poorest road repair system of any. Look at Croatia, Slovenia, Austria even Romania all have better roads and better maintained roads. The fix for bumps and holes in Hungary is lower the speed limit and maybe repair with terrible patches that make the roads look like a quilt!
