These Hollywood celebrities love Hungarian art objects
The Ernst Gallery has been acting for more than 20 years as the “travelling ambassador” of Hungarian art. Its aim is to introduce Hungarian painters to the international context, namely to private and public collections in Hungary and abroad as well. Many international stars visited Hungary in the last few months and they could not resist to stop by the gallery and buy something related to Hungarian culture.
Tom Hiddleston
Eleni Korani (owner of the gallery with Ernst Wastl) was having lunch with her family in a downtown restaurant when she saw Loki from the Marvel movies. She agreed with her husband that if he sat down next to them she would start a conversation with the famous actor – reports Bors. He eventually sat down next to them and there was no way back. Hiddleston was preparing for a biography about the most famous Hungarian war photojournalist Robert Capa and he visited Hungary to collect information about him. Eleni and Ernst even opened the National Museum for Hiddleston where they took a look at the first copy of the Time Magazine featuring Capa’s photos.
Whoopi Goldberg
Goldberg bought 20–25 pieces of paintings and rare ceramics when she visited the gallery. She wanted to buy by credit card but in that time the bank had to be called from a certain amount of money to identify the person who would like to pay. Eleni called them and said that the customer was Whoopi Goldberg. The funny situation was that the bank wanted Eleni to examine Goldberg’s passport to see if it was truly her.
David Thewlis
Professor Lupin from the Harry Potter story bought a painting and some goldsmith’s work for her wife who was in that time shooting a movie about the life of the cruel and evil Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory.
Jennifer Aniston
Unfortunately, Eleni and Ernst never met Aniston but they were thrilled when they got informed that she bought a chair from a New York gallery which was restored by Ernst.
Melissa McCarthy
McCarthy visited the gallery when she was shooting the movie Spy in Budapest. A few days later her husband came and bought a painting for her. Eleni took the painting in secret to her hotel room while she was shooting the Balaton-scenes of the movie.
Tony Curtis
The married couple first met the legendary Tony Curtis at the American Residency where he signed the original poster of Some Like It Hot.
