This Budapest street is one of the world’s 20 most beautiful
An international travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveller, has ranked a Budapest street among the world’s 20 most beautiful. They evaluated several cities globally, from Paris to Kyoto and Bruges to Buenos Aires. Congratulations, Budapest!
French, Spanish and Swiss streets at the top
According to Lelépő, a Hungarian travel news outlet, Condé Nast Traveller compiled a list of the world’s 71 most beautiful streets. Various characteristics were praised in their selection process. Some streets were chosen for their unique pavements or colourful houses, while others stood out due to their ambitious architectural designs. Certain streets captivated travellers with their charming lines of trees.
French, Spanish and Swiss streets topped the list. The gold medal was awarded to Colmar’s colourful main street in the city’s historic old town. The small bridges and boats nearby imbue the alley with romance.
Brunngasse in Brienz, Switzerland, claimed second place. Setenil de las Bodegas, a small Spanish town between Sevilla and Málaga, was awarded bronze. The town’s white houses are built into the rock, attracting thousands of tourists each year.
A unique street: Tehran’s Tohid
Among the most beautiful streets is Tehran’s Tohid (or Towheed) Tunnel, which is somewhat of an outsider. It is the third-longest urban tunnel in the Middle East.
Budapest street is the 13th most beautiful
Budapest’s Zrínyi Street in the 5th district connects Saint Stephen’s Cathedral with Széchenyi István Square, where the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the iconic Chain Bridge are located. Created during the Reform Era (1825-1848), its original name was Alster Gasse, or Magpie Street, reflecting the German heritage of Pest’s original inhabitants.
Between 1849 and 1860, it was named after Julius von Haynau, an Austrian Habsburg general who executed the 13 martyrs of Arad along with hundreds of other officers and soldiers from the Hungarian War of Independence (1848-1849).
In 2007, Zrínyi Street became a pedestrian zone. It is home to several historic buildings, including Saint Stephen’s Basilica. You can read our article about this iconic symbol of Budapest HERE. According to Condé Nast Traveller, Zrínyi Street is the 13th most beautiful street in the world.

Want to see really pretty streets, town? Google Hudson & Rex on Youtube and check out historic & modern NL & Labradour. The fishing trawlers, and other boats had to be frequently painted and any paint of any colour was then applied to houses, which due to almost constant gale winds, salty ocean spray also had to be frequently repainted. I paint my own home every 5 years for almost the same reason on my island. Chester is also often used to film movies, especially family/romance/ seasonal going back home type. Lunenburg a very popular town for a cop series of movies, and Mahone Bay famous for it’s 3 churches next to the water and very specific coloured homes by design often gets into all of the above in snippets. You will want to come visit us. I NEVER get tired of the beauty of coves, hamlets, villages around my home on the Aspatogan Peninsula between Chester and Hubbards. Creative people everywhere.
