Three potential opponents for Tommy Fury after Jake Paul bout

After months of speculation, and a couple of face-to-face encounters, it has finally been confirmed that Tommy Fury and Jake Paul will go toe-to-toe in the ring. Given that he comes from a family who have boxing in their blood, it is no surprise that Fury, the younger brother of world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is the heavy favourite in the Paddy Power boxing betting.
However, while he may be a technically better boxer than his opponent, who grew to fame on the Disney Channel and YouTube, it will, without a doubt, be the biggest fight of his career yet and there have been some questions asked about whether he is going to be able to cope with the momentous occasion, with 21,500 people crammed into the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida and millions more watching from afar.
His career and family name are on the line though, so it really is a must-win fight for the 22-year-old. That said, let’s take a look at three potential future opponents for Fury after his massive payday against Paul. Read on to find out more.
Logan Paul
If this is the route that Fury wants to continue on for his career, as his last couple of fights suggest, then we could well see him pursue a fight with Jake’s brother Logan.
The older of the two siblings, Logan is arguably the man behind YouTubers venturing into boxing, as he fought KSI for the first time back in 2018. Crossover fights have skyrocketed since, and the 26-year-old has even fought Floyd Mayweather with a reported bout against Mike Tyson in the offing.
With Logan seemingly going after some of the biggest names in boxing and the paydays that come along with that, we’re not entirely convinced Fury will cut it for him. However, the former Love Island star’s dad hasn’t ruled it out.
“When he smashes Jake Paul,” John Fury said on The True Geordie Podcast “We’ll take on his brother Logan and smash him as well, if he fancied it.”
Idris Virgo
Fury has ruled out fighting Idris Virgo in the past, claiming that he is ‘not interested’ in ‘Love Island vs Love Island fights.’ Now that the 22-year-old is about to get the exposure that comes with fighting Paul, who has over 20 million subscribers on YouTube, it is perhaps fair to say that Virgo would be a step backwards for Fury and he certainly wouldn’t get a big pay cheque.
However, the 28-year-old, who appeared briefly on season four of Love Island, is unbeaten in all 12 of his professional fights, winning on 11 occasions, and while he hasn’t had much exposure during his career, he would prove to be a solid test for Fury if nothing more.
Aaron Chalmers
After rising to fame on MTV’s Geordie Shore, Aaron Chalmers had a brief MMA career. He won all three of his fights for BAMMA before switching to Bellator, where he went 2-2. He has since revealed his plans to swap the Octagon for the boxing ring, linking up with trainer Adam Booth, who has worked with the likes of David Haye and George Groves, and is keen to get in on the celebrity boxing scene once he has had a couple of fights to settle in. That could lead to a fight with Fury and with both men having a large following in the United Kingdom, there would likely be a lot of interest.
“I’m training with a great group of lads at Boxing Booth and an incredible coach so hopefully it won’t be long now until I can get in the ring and start enjoying myself,” Chalmers told The Mirror. The celebrities are always going to be there. That seems to be the in thing at the moment — celebrity boxing.
“Don’t get me wrong, those are big money fights and I’d be silly to say that I don’t want one of them, but they will come down the line. Maybe not the first two or three, but I would like to get a few fights in and then snap them up because it’s money, isn’t it?”
