Advent is here! If you’re thinking about making this season even more meaningful, consider visiting some gems in Hungary with alone or your loved ones. As Christmas approaches, there are more and more themed events waiting for visitors. Here are the top ten best destinations in Hungary for the Christmas period.
According to the accommodation portal Szallas.hu, New Year’s Eve bookings are already booming, and demand for Christmas is also on the rise, Travelo reports. A number of wellness hotels are already full for the holidays, and city hotels are also popular for Advent weekends.
After the capital, Eger, Szeged, Pécs and Hévíz, the towns that top the list of the most popular destinations for travellers in December are Gyula, Debrecen, Hajdúszoboszló, Zalakaros and Sopron. All of them offer colourful Advent festivities, Christmas fairs, ice-skating and hut atmosphere. Spas and wellness hotels are also popular, as are gastronomic events.

Accommodation providers also try to please their guests: many places offer mulled wine, punch, live music, Christmas decoration- and gingerbread making during the Advent period, Travelo writes.

Based on the aggregate pre-bookings, the average price per person per night is HUF 16,000 (EUR 42.26) in December, which is 17% more than in the same period last year. This is HUF 24,800 (EUR 65.49) for hotels, HUF 9,300 (EUR 24.56) for apartments, HUF 9,900 (EUR 26.15) for guesthouses and HUF 12,300 (EUR 32.49) for pensions, according to a press release from Szallas.hu.
