Trade Unions Say Sunday Work Should Be Restricted
Budapest, November 17 (MTI) – Sunday work should be restricted rather than encouraged, a trade union said in reaction to a proposal by the employer federation (VOSZ).
Ferenc David, the employer federation’s head, told business daily Napi Gazdasag recently that the VOSZ proposed that employees should only work on Sundays if they have declared their willingness to do so and they should get a day off in lieu of weekend work and higher supplementary pay.
The National Association of Independent Commercial Workers (KDFSZ) said the voluntary aspect of this proposal would appear superficial to “intimidated employees in the workplace”, and many would only undertake Sunday work for fear of losing their jobs altogether.
Many employees only work on Sundays because their regular wage is too low to make a proper living, the union added.
