Average price of traditional Hungarian beach food reaches new psychological limit

Although summer starts only in June in Hungary, we can enjoy summer-like weather this weekend. The average temperature during the day is around or even above 30 degrees, so some beaches have opened to welcome sunbathers and swimmers who would like to enjoy the warmth, the sunshine and the water after the cold and rainy days of winter and early spring. However, the prices they meet can be dissatisfying, even that of lángos, one of the most traditional Hungarian beach foods.
What is lángos?
Lángos is a popular fried dough dish, often served as street food or at fairs and festivals. It is made from a simple dough consisting of flour, water, yeast, and salt, which is deep-fried until golden and crispy. Traditionally, lángos is topped with various savoury toppings, such as garlic, sour cream, grated cheese, and sometimes even sweet toppings such as jam or Nutella. It’s beloved for its crispy exterior and soft interior, making it a satisfying treat enjoyed by many in Hungary and neighbouring countries. For an authentic experience, people visit popular beaches along Lake Balaton to consume this tasty treat.

Lángos prices at new height
Blikk, a Hungarian tabloid, checked out the lángos prices around Lake Balaton and discovered that the average is around HUF 2,500 (EUR 6.2). They asked their readers whether they would pay that much for the beach food, but most of them said no.
The good news is that the summer weather will remain with us during the weekend. However, meteorologists are warning people about a cold front arriving on Monday, bringing cold and rain.
