Traffic disruptions expected in Budapest: the country’s Christmas tree arrives on Monday
Drivers on the M3 motorway and in Budapest towards Kossuth Square are asked for their understanding and patience. Possible delays and restrictions may be possible on Monday due to the delivery of a pine tree. The tree will be this year’s Christmas tree of the country. The 18-metre tall silver fir is coming from Apc.
The Christmas tree is arriving
A silver fir, about 18 metres tall, with a trunk diameter of 70 centimetres and weighing 6-8 tonnes, will arrive on Kossuth Square on Monday. The tree was decorating the garden of a family house in Apc, Heves County, the press office of the Parliament informed MTI on Sunday. The tree will be set up on Monday, 21 November, the statement said.
The tree will arrive at Kossuth Square with the help of disaster management experts, the Hungarian Defence Forces and the police. They also asked for the understanding and patience of road users due to the possible delays and restrictions during the delivery of the tree.
The route
The train carrying the silver fir is expected to be on the M3 motorway from 12 noon on Monday, napi.hu reports. From about 1.30 PM onwards, the route will be the followin: M0 motorway – Megyeri Bridge – main road 11 – III. Batthyány Street – Rákóczi Street – Szentendrei Street – Pacsirtamező Street – Lajos Street – Árpád fejedelem Street – Üstökös Street – Török Street – Margit Bridge (traffic excluded) – Jászai Mari Square – Balassi Bálint Street (tram traffic excluded) – Kossuth Square.
During the renewal of Kossuth Square, the designers had already taken into account the placement of the tree. Thanks to this, a permanent, sunk-in socket was placed on the south-western side, which can hold the huge tree securely in strong winds with the help of the strap connectors, the press office of the Parliament wrote.
The decoration
The tree will be adorned with a 130 centimetre high, 103 centimetre wide, 36 centimetre deep, three-dimensional effect, 25 kilogram, eight-pointed star-shaped top ornament, lit with warm white light and energy-saving LED lights. In addition, a 2,500 linear metre string of lights with 16,000 energy-saving coloured LED bulbs will decorate the Christmas tree.
