Trieste launches TriBu.City Fest to unite Central Europe, Italy and Hungary through culture!

Trieste is preparing to host the first edition of the TriBu.City Fest, a new cultural festival created within the framework of the TriBu.City cultural project. The independent initiative aims to strengthen dialogue between the regions, cultures and communities of Central Europe, with particular attention to the connections linking Italy, Hungary and Austria.

The festival will take place from 21 to 26 April 2026 in the heart of Trieste, at the historic Galleria Tergesteo. The programme will feature literary, historical, musical and cultural events, alongside professional meetings and networking opportunities. Cultural institutions, associations, authors, researchers and international participants will all take part in the event.

Opening day honours Giorgio Pressburger

The choice of opening date, 21 April, is symbolic. It marks the birthday of Giorgio Pressburger (Budapest, 1937 – Trieste, 2017), a Central European intellectual deeply connected to Trieste. He famously described the city as a place “halfway between Budapest and Rome”.

As a key figure in Italian–Hungarian cultural dialogue, Pressburger dedicated his life to building bridges between identities, memory and the present.

His daughter, Ilona Pressburger, will attend the festival’s opening ceremony. Speaking about the initiative, she said:

“From the bottom of my heart, I can say that this initiative is perfectly in line with what my father stood for. Throughout his life he worked to build a bridge between two worlds. Seeing such an initiative carry forward this idea today would truly make him proud. It feels as if one of his dreams is finally coming true.”

A cultural bridge between regions

TriBu.City was born from the belief that Trieste, as a historic border city and natural cultural crossroads, can once again play an active role in fostering European encounters and dialogue.

TriBu.City Fest represents the natural evolution of this vision. Rather than simply being a series of events, it aims to serve as a platform for connections, bringing together diverse experiences, expertise and perspectives.

The programme will include book launches, author discussions, academic talks, concerts, artistic events and exhibitions, as well as initiatives exploring the historical memory and contemporary dynamics of the Danube–Adriatic region.

Particular attention will be given to Italian–Hungarian cultural and economic relations, highlighting opportunities for cooperation and shared value creation.

International cooperation and European dialogue

The festival also forms part of a larger framework of international cooperation. One of its goals is to involve Italian communities living abroad, cultural associations and networks working to promote European dialogue.

The full programme and official updates are available on the festival’s website.
