Türkiye suicide bombing: Hungarian Foreign Minister blames migration and radical ideologies
The terrorist attack in Ankara demonstrates well the importance of global efforts to be taken to combat terrorism, the Hungarian foreign minister said, after a suicide bomb attack took place in the Turkish capital on Sunday.
On Sunday, a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of the Turkish Interior Ministry building, and his accomplice was shot dead. Two police officers were wounded in the shootout that followed the blast. It was the first suicide bombing in Ankara since 2016.
The global threat posed by terrorism has never been as serious as today, Péter Szijjártó said in a post on Facebook on Monday. He said the two main reasons were a fast spread of extremist, radical ideologies and a massive increase in migration.
“The most effective way of thwarting terrorism would therefore be suppressing radical ideologies and stopping migration,” Szijjártó said.
“We stand by our Turkish friends and will urge strengthening the EU’s cooperation with Türkiye on combatting terrorism,” the minister said.
For context – the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) claimed responsibility for the bombing, and the PKK is classified as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union.
The Kurds are a minority and pose a domestic challenge: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurds_in_Turkey
Mr. Szijjártó’s point regarding “extremist, radical ideologies” and “massive increase in migration” in this context s well wide of the mark. It is a domestic conflict regarding the recognition of an ethnic minority, and unfortunately the PKK has chosen to pursue “the cause” using violent means.
Reprehensible, however not much to do with either “ideologies” or “migration”. Again, these awful acts are of domestic and ethnic origin. Politicians spreading fear when they can?
surprisingly, when an attack happened in Esztergom few days ago, it was not described as terrorism even fatalities occurred
why!? because it was done by a European citizen!
what a hypocrisy
Agreed that the Turkish case is not the result of “migration” but is domestic. The French have had terrorist incidents as a result of radical ideologies imported through migration. Sweden is an example where migration brought in terrible gang violence to the point that it could be classified as terrorism but is not necessarily through ideology but just organized crime. Szijjarto is a clown who could make a rational case for his anti-migration ideas but can’t get his facts straight.
