Two teenage boys brutally killed a stork in Jászapáti
The stork’s body was found on Monday at the school yard in Jászapáti, and two fifteen year old boys were suspected of killing the animal. The students confessed to the killing, hvg.hu writes.
Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Police Station also confirmed that two teenage boys are suspected of the murder.
The stork was well-known among the locals, and its body was found on the schoolyard; his legs were broken, and his head was smashed. The police has already taken actions against persons unknown, and the two fifteen year old boys, who confessed to the murder, were identified and interrogated within 24 hours.
István Mihályi, who found the stork, said that the animal frequently searched the school’s yard for snails and bugs.
Although Mihályi saw several times that the stork is being chased he could always get away somehow.
Mihályi was shocked by the cruelty the bird was killed with: his legs were broken, his head was pierced through, smashed, and suffered multiple blows and kicks.
Storks are specially protected birds and killing them is a crime.
The school told hvg.hu that the bird was most likely killed by people who were in the school’s closed yard without permission during the weekend. The school is planning to have a memorial for the bird. Two people have offered a support of 100 000-100 000 HUF.
According to index.hu, pictures of the bird were posted in the “Jászapáti én is szeretlek” (Jászapáti I love you too) Facebook group, and the description says that the stork was most likely killed by a horde which regularly sneaked into the school’s football field.

I came to live in Hungary to get away from mindless thugs that torture and kill animals just for the fun of it – how upset and disappointed I am to see this happens here too. I wonder how much pleasure they got from doing this mindless thing to a bird who wld never do them any harm. I do hope their punishment is severe.
