Hungary pledges EUR 20,000 aid and sends rescue team to support flood-stricken Spain
Hungary’s government is sending 20,000 euros of emergency aid to the victims of flood-hit regions of Spain, and will fund a Hungarian volunteer search and rescue team, a government official said on Saturday.
Tristan Azbej, the state secretary who heads the government’s Hungary Helps programme, said the government was “shaken” to learn of the disaster in Valencia, where flash floods have killed at least 200 and “the damage is very hard to estimate”. “We hope to contribute towards saving lives and mitigating the damage. Our Spanish friends can count on us,” Azbej said.
