Csíksomlyó pilgrimage and Tisza-blooming Hungaricums
The Pentecostal farewell and shrine, the Tisza-blooming, as well as others have been added to the Collection of Hungaricums. The Hungarian Depository has also been expanded by seven new items.
The Hungaricum Committee held its 25th annual meeting on Thursday in Budapest, reported Index. At the meeting, István Nagy, the Minister of Agriculture, announced the newest additions to the Collection.
According to the decision of the Hungaricum Committee: “in the future, the Pentecostal farewell and shrine of Csíksomlyó will enrich the collection, which is one of the most significant religious holidays of all Hungarians, a symbol of national unity,” states the announcement of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Classic Hungarian sabre-fencing, the foundation of Hungarian swords school, has also been added to the collection.
Mayflies are well-known for their swarming – this is what they call “Tisza-blooming” in Hungary, as it looks like the river is blooming. The phenomenon is a protected natural and landscape value, and is special in a global sense, thus being a new addition to Hungaricums.
Rosary of Szőreg is another newcomer to the list. It is famous for its tolerance for frost, has a long blooming period, and its petals display intense colours, making it a popular export product.
The eight new items which have been added to the Hungarian Depository are: Hajdúnánás straw processing as a traditional domestic activity, the Freedom of Religion Act of 1568, the Spring Memorial Campaign, cherries from Újfehértó, the cross-stitch embroidery of Bereg, the ruins of the church and the stones of Aracs, the wagon car, as well as the Anna Ball in Balatonfüred.
