Mobile operator raises prices massively in Hungary!

Magyar Telekom, one of Hungary’s largest mobile operators, will increase the price of its services from 1 March, as set out in its General Terms and Conditions, based on data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office. The increase is not a small one. If you use Telekom’s services, mark your calendar and get your wallet ready.

Inflation-linked tarrif adjustment

Magyar Telekom will implement a 14.5 percent inflation-linked tariff adjustment from 1 March 2023. The news was announced by the company on Tuesday morning, hvg.hu reports. According to the company, the price increase is necessary due to the drastic rise in energy prices and supplier costs.

Telekom customers were informed about the expected tariff adjustment in their bill statement sent in July 2022. This provision was included in the General Terms and Conditions with effect from 1 September 2022. Based on this specification, the monthly subscription fees will change in line with the annual average consumer price index published by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) for the previous financial year.

New bills to be sent in March and April

The company stressed that it will implement the monthly fee adjustment of the services and tariff packages included in the General Terms and Conditions and the subscriber contracts within 90 days of the official publication of the KSH’s statement on the annual average consumer price index. However, traffic-type charges shall remain unchanged.

The company will also inform subscribers about the amount of the inflation-linked tariff adjustment in the February 2023 bill, hvg.hu adds. The first increased bill will be sent to business fixed line customers in March. To residential fixed line, residential mobile and business mobile subscribers, it will be sent in April.
