Ukrainian President Zelensky and PM Orbán to meet in Brussels on Thursday?

According to Politico, the Ukrainian President will travel to the European Union summit on Thursday. The summit will be attended by prime ministers and heads of state, including Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The diplomatic conflict between Hungary and Ukraine is palpable. Last time Orbán compared Ukraine to Afghanistan and said the Russians would win the war.
The statements caused public outrage in Ukraine. The Hungarian ambassador was summoned by the Ukrainian foreign minister. Moreover, a Ukrainian mayor threatened Orbán and the entire nation of Hungary. Having said that, now the two leaders will have the chance to see each other face-to-face in the “capital of the EU” to resolve their issues. Thursday may mark Zelensky’s second official foreign visit. The first was last December when he travelled to Washington to meet President Joe Biden.
Orbán attends video conference prior to EU summit
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán attended a video conference on Tuesday along with his Polish, Belgian, Finnish and Maltese counterparts, in preparation for a European Union summit starting on Thursday, the PM’s press chief said. The summit will focus on the war in Ukraine, economic challenges and illegal migration, Bertalan Havasi said.
‘Strategic government meeting’, wrote Orbán in the photo:
Orbán called for immediate ceasefire and peace talks in Ukraine and a “substantive political debate” on the EU sanctions against Russia, Havasi said. He also added that the “current situation” warranted swifter and simpler access to cohesion and reconstruction funds for member states. Regarding migration, Orbán called on the EU to support border protection because frontier “fences are protection for the whole of Europe”, Havasi explained.
