For the first time ever, the rich and diverse world of Uzbek cinema will take centre stage in Budapest! The inaugural Uzbek Cinema Day, organised by Uzbekistan’s Cinematography Agency in collaboration with the Hungarian National Film Institute and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Hungary, promises an unforgettable cinematic experience.
The event will showcase four powerful films that have captivated audiences worldwide: Ilhaq, Farida’s 2000 Songs, House, and Pandemic. These films, spanning historical drama, contemporary social issues, and gripping human stories, reflect Uzbekistan’s dynamic and evolving film industry.
A celebration of Uzbek storytelling
The screening will be attended by a distinguished delegation led by Shuhrat Rizayev, Director of the Uzbekistan Cinematography Agency, along with renowned filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals from Uzbekistan and Hungary. This is a rare opportunity for Budapest’s film lovers to experience the unique narratives and artistic vision emerging from Central Asia.
Featured films:
• “Ilhaq” – A deeply moving historical drama based on real events from World War II, telling the heartbreaking story of a mother who never loses hope for the return of her sons from the battlefield.
• “Farida’s 2000 Songs” – A powerful film set against the backdrop of the Russian Civil War, depicting the struggle of Uzbek women for dignity and independence in a time of great social upheaval.
• “House” – A gripping modern thriller following a mother’s relentless quest for justice after losing her son to a dangerous viral challenge, offering a sharp critique of social media culture.
• “Pandemic” – A harrowing drama about Uzbekistan’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak, portraying the resilience, sacrifice, and moral dilemmas faced by doctors and ordinary citizens during the crisis.
These films, produced by Uzbekistan’s Cinematography Agency, have already been screened in over ten countries, including Turkey, China, Belarus, and Russia, and have garnered attention at international film festivals.
