Kurultáj, a tribal assembly of Hun-Turkic peoples, is “a message and example for all western and eastern people”, House Speaker László Kövér said at the bi-annual meeting’s opening ceremony held in Bugac, in south-central Hungary, on Saturday.
Referring to Hungary’s history, Kövér said that during the past one thousand years “sometimes it was the east, other times the west that sunk their teeth into us; that is how they trained us, that is why we are still strong and thriving” he said. “There were times when the east tried to force us to refuse our western culture, and on other occasions the west wanted us to deny our eastern roots,” he said, but added that “we, Hungarians won’t deny east or west but work to build a link between them”.
Concerning the current situation, Kövér noted two conflicts in the world that could seriously impact the east. The first, he said, was the Russia-Ukraine war. What is at stake, is whether western and eastern powers can reach a new compromise to ensure stability or “the local conflict will escalate into a total world war, in which there will be no winners, neither in the west nor in the east but terrible losses”.
“Together with Ukraine and Russia, the whole of Europe is among the losers, economically, politically, and morally,” Kövér said.
Concerning the other conflict, Kövér said there was an “as yet bloodless war” under way in the western world “aimed at completely annihilating memories of the west” through “cancel culture”, while human differences are used “to sow division between whites and blacks, westerners and easterners, men and women, young and old, Christians and Muslims”.
What they do is “an attempt to make people lose their memories, values, conscience and identity so that they can be manipulated and sold out” Kövér said. “They refer to democracy and human rights, but they want to strip us of our freedom and right to preserve our faith, traditions, and culture,” he added.
