Volánbusz: Hungary’s main passenger bus company ceases to exist
The Minister of Construction and Transport has officially ordered the merger of MÁV-START Plc and Volánbusz Plc. The merger of the state-owned passenger transport majors had been on the agenda for a long time. With this decision, Volánbusz as a separate entity will cease to exist from January 2025.
Volánbusz ceases to exist as a separate entity
The Minister of Construction and Transport, who exercises the state’s ownership rights and obligations over the MÁV-Volán Group, has officially ordered the merger of the two state-owned passenger transport companies, MÁV-START Plc. and Volánbusz Plc., Magyarbusz.info reported.
The legal and administrative processes for the MÁVAUT concept, which has been much talked about in recent months, should be completed by the end of the year. As a result of the integration process, the two public service companies will continue their activities as a single company, together with the passenger transport business of MÁV-HÉV Plc. and MÁV Rail Tours Ltd, under the name
Thus, with the merger, Volánbusz will lose its independence and legendary brand name completely and will be integrated into the new entity.
The integration is promised to be primarily of company law significance. In principle, the day-to-day work of employees will hardly be affected by the merger. The changes will mainly be related to the functioning of management and to making back-office and support functions more efficient, Magyarbusz.info writes.

Sure… all FIDEZ touches turns to gold… for the oligarchs… and shit for the people.
Oh dear. Volanbusz fundamentally works, as evidenced in the recent heat wave when passengers were advised to turn to Volanbusz instead of the railways due to most of their vehicles being air conditioned. One doesn’t read of significant delays or cancellations at Volanbusz, it does what it says on the tin. MAV on the other hand is a basket case. A merger between the two entities is the last thing Volanbusz needs.
This Fidesz government is completely insane. They are destroying the country with their reckless stupidity. These are two completely different organizations that they are forcing a merger of and the result will add a further layer of chaos to their state of crisis. Put a rail executive in charge of decision making for buses or a bus executive in charge of making decisions for trains. They have no idea how the other part of the business operates. Hungary would be better off with a group of donkeys for a government.
It’s like someone to address how many jobs will become redundant as a result of this merger.
“Not everywhere needs to be modernized and developed and sanitised – until all the soul – is sucked away.”
Hungarians – we are having the Soul of our country “sucked away” from us, in practically all directions we look, by this Orban – Fidesz Government.
Appalling.
What are the chances that things will be better for bus passengers after this merger?
