Overcrowded terraces in Hungary – Was the reopening rushed?
The fear of a fourth wave was discussed by doctors, who talked about the government-issued reopening to 24.hu. Some said the photo of the prime minister posing with beer carries a dangerous message, but there have also been doctors who believe the government is not taking a significant risk.
It’s like washing the floor at home and your child walking through it with muddy shoes
– this is how an intensive care doctor who has been treating coronavirus patients for half a year put the situation.

Several of the doctors interviewed are watching the events with anxiety, frustration and disagreement. These are some of the quotes from 24.hu about the seriousness of the situation:
• There is no basis for this type of pandemic management, clearly the goal is political gain.
• I also want to go to the movies, but most of all I want to get my job back because I’ve only been caring for coronavirus patients for months.
• If the number of people per square meter can be mesured in the shops, this can also be regulated on the terraces.
• In addition to opening the terraces, we should also talk about what to do with postponed surgeries.
Since November, the terraces of the restaurants could now be opened for the first time on Saturday, where the people enjoyed themselves without a mask. There were many in Budapest during the day, and in the evening there was a never before seen crowd on Madách and Erzsébet square.
“The situation is tragic and it doesn’t get to people,”
said the director of the Székesfehérvár hospital about the fact that 84 percent of the patients in the hospital die on a ventilator.
One of the doctors working in the intensive care unit told 24.hu that while thousands were celebrating the freedom of the opening over the weekend, health care was doubting the sanity of the decision, and began to fear that another rough wave would explode as a result of the relaxation.
It was also highlighted that while the pressure on health care has indeed decreased significantly now, this more favorable condition is fragile and, as it was in the autumn wave, the pandemic could intensify again at any time.
Adjusting the reopening to the number of vaccinations is not the norm in international pandemic management; it should be adjusted to other data, such as the number of new infections and deaths
– suggested one Covid doctor to 24.hu who emphasised:
the Hungarian pandemic situation, despite the reopening, is difficult, remains the most severe in Europe, and there is no significant reduction in the number of deaths either.
Several doctors also pointed out that the 20-40 age group with the lowest vaccination rate was the one being careless over the weekend. Even if young people have a relatively lower risk of severe consequences, the possible complications still can not be ignored.
While the operative unit’s morning briefings instruct us to keep our distance, wear a mask, wash our hands, and take care of each other, the non-verbal messages suggest that everything is fine and our old lives are back.
Two of the doctors interviewed by 24.hu brought up the data on hospital admissions and deaths published by the government on Sunday, which were explained on the government’s information website as follows:
“After getting vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, more people became ill. and twice as many died as after the Sinopharm vaccine. ”
This, according to the doctors asked, is unscientific, an empty data, and does not cover reality. One of them added that in the hospital where they work, they experience the exact opposite:
One said the vast majority of vaccinated patients were vaccinated with Sinopharm, there were 1-2 Sputnik vaccines, and in the four months they worked there, the doctor met only one patient vaccinated with Pfizer.
24.hu also interviewed some of the people enjoying themselves carelessly:

The terraces in Budapest may have been ‘overcrowded’ last weekend but the fact remains that if Hungarians really want a return to ‘normality’, AT LEAST another two million ‘first jabs’ of CORONAVIRUS vaccine must be administered (with follow-up ‘boosters’ as required).
One million of those are a CERTAINTY but the other million (+) will ONLY occur after individuals aged between 20 – 40 years realise that WITHOUT an ‘immunity card’, entry to most forms of entertainment will be ‘off limits’.
So before Professor “Mad Dog” Caritas climbs another mountain (like a modern-day prophet) to deliver his usual sermon, be assured that ‘hedonistic youth’ are fully aware of the equation : NO VACCINATION = LIMITED ABILITY TO ENJOY LIVING IN BUDAPEST / HUNGARY.
It will not be very long before most of those younger Hungarians are vaccinated.
As for the poor Americans who cannot ‘circumvent’ Hungarian ways of doing things, it is strongly recommended that they pressure President ‘OLD FART’ Biden to look after U.S. citizens – no matter where those might live .
If necessary, protest outside the U.S. Embassy in Budapest’s 5th District !
God bless America(ns) – because no one else will.
