Wizz Air to open new base in beautiful nearby country!

Wizz Air has announced the opening of its newest and 36th base in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, marking a new chapter in the country’s aviation industry.
Wizz Air to expand even further
The decision represents a major milestone for Montenegro, promising not only to strengthen its air connections but also to boost the local economy and tourism sector, writes Turizmus.com.
Starting in March 2026, Wizz Air will station two state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft in Podgorica and launch 14 new routes connecting the city with some of Europe’s most important destinations.
According to the company’s statement, the new flights will link Podgorica with cities such as Barcelona, Basel, Cologne, Gdańsk, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Ljubljana, Maastricht, Malmö, Paris, Poznań, Rome, Rzeszów and Wrocław. This expansion will add more than one million additional seats per year, further establishing Podgorica as a dynamic gateway to Europe.

Overtaking competitors
With this move, the company strengthens its position as the leading airline at Podgorica Airport and is set to become Montenegro’s number one carrier overall. The opening of the new base is expected to create around 80 direct and 700 indirect jobs, stimulating local employment and contributing to the growth of tourism and related industries.
József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air, emphasised the airline’s long-term commitment to Montenegro. “Wizz Air is dedicated to expanding affordable travel opportunities, supporting sustainable aviation through modern, fuel-efficient aircraft, and driving growth in tourism and the wider economy. This base is not just an operational expansion – it is a long-term investment in Montenegro’s mobility, economy, and future,” he said.
