For the third year in a row, WONDEREST brings together local and international artists in the indie-folk, neoclassical and other mainly acoustic genres in the middle of nature. Born in the Transylvanian mountains, the festival will move to the Hungarian Őrség National Park area this year, close to the Austrian and Slovenian borders.
The Story:
WONDEREST itself grew out of the Budapest-based concert series called Garden Wonder now approaching the 5-year mark, after the need developed in the community to extend the shared experience and time spent together at each concert. The result was a four-day festival in Transylvania,
but the most important element, the wonder, remained: both at the concerts and at WONDEREST, the experience is rooted in being present in the moment.
The motto of WONDEREST: “Here. Now. / Here. Now”.
Festival participants can break away from everyday life and technology and experience a minimalist lifestyle during their four-day camping, immersing themselves in a slow living rhythm. Sustainability is a priority that influences every sphere of the festival: WONDEREST encourages its musicians and guests alike to choose environmentally conscious options when planning their travel: carpool, train, bus.
The development of (vegan) festival kitchen is also an important part of the sustainability framework, emphasizing that the meals are made from local and seasonal ingredients. This year, the vegetables will be sourced from the organic garden of Vas County Specialized Home.
WONDEREST is also a partner of Forests Without Frontiers. The organization plants a native tree in Romania after each festival ticket sold, and the event of their tree planting campaign is public, anyone
can join.

The focal point of WONDEREST is music, so the program will be mostly highlighting music performances, and this year the organizers came up with a bold vision for the structure of concerts that is still a novelty in Hungary.
Musicians will be invited to take part in an artist residency for the entire duration of the festival, allowing for the opportunity to spontaneously collaborate with other musicians. Thus, in addition to pre-planned main stage concerts, the goal is to create unique, novel, one-off productions. As part of the festival program, as in previous years, participants can also expect yoga, inspiring panel discussions and craft workshops.
This year, Ispánk will give home to WONDEREST, a cul-de-sac village of 111 people not far from Őriszentpéter. Ticket sales have already started, the number of four-day passes is limited, a total of
300 can be purchased. Confirmed artists so far are Vincent Moon (FR), Filiah (AT), Casper Clausen (DK),
Antoní (DE), Meret Ester (DE), Musspell (RO), many more tba.
