World-class Wi-Fi in Budapest
However, Hungary is not so good at gratuity. At the national level, the situation is even worse, origo.hu says.
Budapest placed second in the world rankings made by Hotelwifitest about the quality of the hotel Wi-Fi. In the Hungarian capital, 84.4% of the hotels fulfilled the at least 3Mbps download speed (this is the Netflix recommendation for SD quality streaming) and the 500 kbps upload speed (this is recommended by Skype for good, but not HD-quality video calls).
The list of 50 cities is led by Stockholm by 88.9% and closed by Albufeira in South Portugal by only 8.8%. The list contains those 50 cities about whose hotels the most information is available. Thus, it is possible that there is a city with better rates, but there was not enough data for inclusion in the list, origo.hu says.
The list of countries is led by South Korea by 92%, which is interesting because there is no Korean city in the list of cities (probably there was not enough data to get into the top 50). In that ranking, Hungary took the 10th place by 74.4%, and the last is Cambodia by 20.7%.
The wi-fi quality
(Corresponding to the percentage hotels)
- South Korea 92
- Japan 84.9
- Ukraine 82.1
- Switzerland 79.8
- Romania 78.0
Three of the continents provided sufficient data, moreover, instead of North America, only the USA is on the list, because there was just few information about other countries’ hotels and it only would have distorted the picture. Asia won the race by 50 percent, the second is Europe by 46% and the last is the USA by 35%.
Not only quality counts
It is quite important information to a guest that how reliable Wi-Fi services are, but it is equally interesting that the hotel offers for free to access. In this race, Budapest is not so good since19 cities of the 50 area ahead of the. In the Hungarian capital, you do not have to pay for Wi-Fi in the 75.8 percent of the hotels, the same index is 91.5% in Istanbul and 37.6% in the last ranked Albufeira (in the otherwise beautiful coastal city, it is not enough that the Internet is weak but usually you also have to pay for it),origo.hu says.
Among the countries, Vietnam has the best ratio, 91.5% of the hotels offer free Wi-Fi there. The last place of the list, Cambodia is barely left behind, but Norway, Sweden and Russia are also above 90%. Hungary is only the 28th on this list by 74.4%, in the end of the 50- place ranking is China by 32.7%
Free Wi-Fi
(as the percentage of the hotels)
- Vietnam 95.1
- Cambodia 95
- Norway 92.4
- Sweden 91
- Russia 90.1
In the continents’ competition, order is just inverted in gratuity as in quality. Most of the hotels (85%) offer free Wi-Fi in the USA followed by Europe (75%) and Asia (61%).
