Record Hungarian lottery winner reveals his plans with the jackpot
The 28th March 2020 was probably the luckiest day of the 63-year-old Hungarian resident who won the most enormous jackpot in the history of the Hungarian “Ötöslottó”. The reward of the fortunate winner is EUR 18.1 million (~HUF 6.431 billion).
In case of top prizes, the national lottery company provides an opportunity to the winner to fill in an anonymous questionnaire in which they can reveal information about themselves, their gaming system and their life while maintaining anonymity. This is the so-called grand prize questionnaire, from which several things have been revealed about the record winner of the most famous lottery game in Hungary.
As the Hungarian news portal, Blikk reports –
the fortunate player gave up his billions-worthy coupon in the countryside that was handed in independently; the numbers were randomly selected.
The winner said he had no word after realising on the Internet that his numbers matched the drawn numbers. First, his partner was notified about the great news.
According to previous grand-winning questionnaires, the majority of winners have been playing with the lottery game in which they won the grand prize for several years or even decades. However, the greatest jackpot winner is an exception, trying his fortune only a few times a year, without following any strategy.
The record winner expects his life to change entirely and hopes that the prize will also affect his friendships and family relationships. The player also revealed that he would like to spend his fortune on material things, such as a car and an apartment; but he also plans to invest, for which he will ask the help of a financial investor. Of course, family members will also benefit from the amount.

Winners who lost their prize
The fortunate winner had to register with the winning coupon at the Hungarian National Lottery Company “Szerencsejáték Zrt.” within 90 days after the draw, which he did within a few days.
Still, some less attentive players did not apply for the money so it was returned to the fund, from which lucky hunters could win in other games.
Such case was experienced in 2018, when the record prize of “Ötöslottó” – EUR 4.75 million (~HUF 1.688 billion) – was not taken by the winner; or in the case of the “Hatoslottó” in 2015, when no lottery winner applied for EUR 681,580 (~HUF 242.2 million).
According to Origo, the company also clarified that the amount of non-received prizes are used up within the framework of special draws; therefore such prizes – for which the winners do not apply within the available time – also enrich lottery players.
