Young children who do not speak Romanian yet, receive their study grades solely in Romanian
Young children who do not speak Romanian yet, receive their study grades solely in Romanian, even in schools and classes where children study exclusively in Hungarian.
As a result, young children who do not have a good understanding of the Romanian language, are being given grades they don’t understand. The grading system in primary school varies from „insufficient” to „excellent”. Children receive these grades and they are written into their school record card solely in Romanian. As a result, in a very early age young children are being faced with the consequences of their alterity, as for example, they do not receive grades in their own mother tongue.
All certificates in the educational system are monolingual, in spite of the fact that there is a clear desire and wish of the Hungarian community for their children to receive educational documents, including school record cards, certificates and diplomas also in Hungarian.
