BREAKING NEWS – Keleti railway station closes, all asked to clear building – UPDATE – VIDEOS
Budapest’s Keleti railway station closed down after 9am on Tuesday for an unspecified period and all passengers were asked to leave the site.
A local MTI correspondent said the railway platforms and the area in front of the station were occupied fully by migrants. Police formed lines blocking access to the platforms with migrants standing in front and behind of them.
Police also blocked the entrance to the railway station from the pedestrian underpass and people were asked over loudspeakers to leave the building.
Boarding the four trains at the station’s platforms were stalled.
Railway transport information service MAV inform said all services to Keleti railway station would temporarily operate only to Kobanya Felso and Rakosrendezo stations outside the centre of Budapest.
A local MTI correspondent said migrants were still not allowed to enter the railway station. Other passengers were allowed to board an international service bound to Vienna.
At around 11am, police also forced migrants to leave the ticket desk areas of the station.
