Over 2,000 Hungarian musicians to mark Bach’s birthday this year
The birth anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach will be celebrated at over 100 locations in Hungary, with some 2,000 performers in 300 concerts between March 21 and 25, organisers of the Bach for Everyone Festival said on public television on Saturday.
The Hungarian festival follows the Bach in the Subways international programme, offering free concerts to the public on and around the birthday of the composer.
Events in Hungary will open with a concert by the orchestra of the Hungarian riot police at the Budapest Music Center on March 20, Zalán Kovács, the founder of the Hungarian festival, said.
“It is important to remove the walls of concert halls and build a bridge between the stage and the audience,” Kovács, a tuba artist himself, said.
Hungary joined for this program in 2015. Because of the success of last year’s event on the 19th of March 2016 in the inner city of Budapest, and on the 20th of March in the Budapest Zoo we re-organize this program. Our main goal is to make the subways, market halls and other public places of Budapest full of Bach’s music, Kovács said.
Bach was born on March 21, 1685.
