45 puppies died in fire in a Pecs shelter

Fire broke out in the dog shelter of the Misina Nature and Animal Protection Association in Pecs on Saturday night, 45 puppies died – Baranya County Emergency Management Directorate informed on its website on Sunday, szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu wrote.

The fire was noticed by one of the colleagues of the association who spotted the dogs’ barking. Then, however, the roof of the dog kennels was already ablaze. The firefighters in Pecs started the rescue of the dogs in parallel with the extinguishing: they brought 15 animals out of the building, but 45 died.

The Baranya County disaster management highlighted there was no evidence of intent at the scene, the fire was probably caused by an electrical failure.

Tamas Farkas, head of the association told MTI: the fire affected the so-called puppy quarantine; the flames did not spread to other buildings, thanks to the quick intervention of the firefighters. It is essential because the organization takes care of 250 puppies and 150-200 other animals as well – he said.
