6 cocktail bars in Budapest that you should try
While the Hungarian traditional alcoholic beverages are without a doubt unique and tasty, sometimes you might feel like drinking something fancy, like a tasty cocktail. Well, look no further, Funzine.hu has collected some of the best cocktail bars in the city.
Something unusual…
NANO
Here: 1056 Budapest, Papnövelde u. 10.
Open: Sun – Thu: 18:00 – 00:00, Fri – Sat: 18:00 – 02:00
Let’s start with something really exciting and adventurous, like NANO. If you step in, you might feel like you’re back in your high school chemistry lab, but you’ll have the feeling that something is off. Well, it’s a cocktail bar, don’t let the test-tubes, the edible flowers and the dry ice fool you. This place will surely amaze you with the sights here and the tastes as well: they serve food, not just cocktails, and trust us, it’s really good.
Secret Bar-Spíler Shanghai
Here: 1075 Budapest, Király utca 13.
Open: Mon – Sun: 08:30 – 03:00
This bar will surely rip you out of Budapest’s romantic atmosphere with its mystical blacks and fiery reds dominant in the decoration. Spíler Shanghai takes you on a journey into the world of Eastern tastes: the classics are usually spiced up with cardamom and cinnamon, depending on what you’d like, but you should really try their famous Pornstar Martini. The bartenders are really helpful, they will happily guide you on the uncertain territories of Eastern spices and revolutionary cocktails.
For a great view…
KIOSK Budapest
Here: 1052 Budapest, Március 15. tér 4
Open: Sun – Wed: 12:00 – 00:00, Thu – Sat: 12:00 – 01:00
You might have heard about KIOSK, it’s quite famous for its terrace with a view of the Danube and the hills of Buda, and also for the great food that they serve. However, you can drink some really good cocktails here as well, be it a classic L’Aperol Spritz, or their specialities like Chai KIOSK (made from Absolut Vodka infused with chai tea, fig jam, citrus, Strongbow Gold Cider and Chocolate Bitter).
High Note SkyBar
Here: 1051 Budapest, Hercegprímás u. 5
Open: Mon – Sun: 12:00 – 18:00
What’s better than a refreshing cocktail and a great view of one of the most beautiful cities, Budapest? Well, you’ll get both at High Note SkyBar, which is next to the Basilica at the terrace of Aria Hotel Budapest. Although this bar is a bit pricey, the excellent quality and the professional staff will surely make up for it, along with the beautiful view.
Simple, yet special…
WarmUp
Here: 1072 Budapest, Nagy Diófa u. 26 and 1073 Budapest, Kertész u. 39
Open: (both bars) Sun – Wed: 18:00 – 01:00, Thu: 18:00 – 02:00, Fri – Sat: 18:00 – 04:00
What makes WarmUp special is that they simply do not have a menu: the bartenders will prepare your drink according to your mood, taste, desires. These drinks are surely impeccable both in taste and in look. Their first bar in Nagy Diófa street is quite small, making it more homely, while the second, the WarmUp Rustic, is much bigger, where you can invite a bigger group of friends.
Boutiq’Bar
Here: 1061 Budapest, Paulay Ede u. 5.
Open: Tue – Thu: 18:00 – 01:00
Boutiq’Bar does not try to lure you in with fancy signs, but if you happen to pop by, you will surely feel that there really is no need to go big on design here. The drinks here are categorised so that you’ll find it easier to pick one that is to your taste. They have specialities with exciting names, and even though the most common drinks are not found on the menu, you can still ask the bartenders to prepare them for you. Also, if you buy a medium-priced drink, then you’ll get some salted popcorn and cucumber-infused water as well. Oh, let’s not forget that in 2012 they were in the top 50 cocktail bars in the world!
