There are so many celebrities across the globe whose ancestors are of Hungarian descent that we almost never get to the end of the list. We have already collected 6 stars, and now we continue our list.
Joseph Pulitzer
Joseph Pulitzer was a Hungarian-born American journalist and publisher. Joseph was born in Makó, Hungary. He was recruited by the U.S. Army in Hamburg and was involved in the U.S. Civil War on the side of the North. Afterwards, he became a businessman. Upon his death, he left provisions in his will to establish the famous Pulitzer Prize, which was originally awarded for exceptional endeavours in journalism, drama, and education.
Nicolas Sarkozy
Nicolas Sarkozy is a French politician of Hungarian descent on his paternal side. During the 2007 French Presidential election, he became the 23rd President of France by earning 53 per cent of the votes. During his term, he faced the financial crisis of 2008. He initiated the reform of French universities in 2007 and the pension reform in 2010.
Joaquin Phoenix
Joaquin Rafael Phoenix is an American actor and producer. Less well-known is the fact that he is also an environmentalist and animal rights activist. He won an Oscar, two Golden Globe Awards, and a BAFTA award. He started acting with his brother in his early childhood. His Grandmother was born in Hungary and his grandfather was born in Russia. One of his most famous roles was playing the Joker in 2019.
Tony Curtis
Anthony Curtis was an American actor whose career lasted for six decades. He played in more than 100 films in roles covering a wide range of genres, from comedy to drama. He starred as Houdini in 1953. His parents were Hungarian-Jewish emigrants from Czechoslovakia and Hungary.
Mayim Bialik
Mayim Chaya Bialik is an American actress, neurologist, and writer. Her best-known role as an actor is Amy Farrah Fowler’s character on The Big Bang Theory. For this role, she was nominated for an Emmy Award three times. Her ancestors emigrated to the United States from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. Bialik is not only a scientist in the series, as she earned her PhD in neuroscience in 2007.
Alanis Morrissette
Alanis Nadine Morissette is a singer, lyricist, music producer, and actress. She won 7 Grammy Awards and sold more than 60 million copies of her albums worldwide. Her father is French-Canadian, while her mother is of Hungarian descent. She started playing the piano at the age of six, writing her first song at the age of 10, while her acting career began at the age of 12. She is so proud of her Hungarian roots that she named her child Imre, which is a popular Hungarian name. Her publishing company is called Szeretlek, which means “I love you” in Hungarian.
