Shocking: 79-year-old drug dealer arrested in small Hungarian village

A 79-year-old drug dealer has been arrested in Mátraverebély for selling narcotics and even remunerating those who assisted with household chores in drugs, the spokesperson for the Nógrád County Police Headquarters told MTI on Tuesday.

Gábor Buda explained that the retired man had been selling drugs on a daily basis to local acquaintances throughout last year. He also provided illegal substances, rather than money, to female acquaintances who washed, cooked, and cleaned at the widower’s home, the Hungarian News Agencyreported.

He added that police had recently taken action on several occasions against users found in possession of drugs obtained from the man.

The pensioner was apprehended at his flat on 28 November by officers from the Bátonyterenye Police Department following an investigation supported by expert assessments and witness testimony. He was questioned on suspicion of drug trafficking, taken into custody, and subsequently remanded in detention by a court, the spokesperson said.
