Government official calls for greater inclusion of youth in Hungarian orgs abroad
Sydney (MTI) – Hungary’s government must continue on with its diaspora policies and put greater emphasis on the inclusion of young people in the activities of Hungarian organisations abroad, the state secretary for Hungarian communities abroad said on Sunday.
Like all ethnic Hungarian groups in general, Hungarian organisations and associations in Australia are also struggling to attract young people, Árpád János Potápi told MTI by phone from Australia, where he has been meeting with ethnic Hungarians over the past ten days. He said ethnic organisations in that country should aim to attract young people who had just recently moved to Australia and have children. The Hungarian government will try to help them with this, he said.
Over the weekend, Potápi met representatives of Hungarian organisations in Melbourne and visited the world’s largest Hungarian centre which operates, among others, a Hungarian Sunday school. He also visited the Bocskai Centre, which holds classes for about 40 Hungarian students on the weekends.
Potápi said the organisations he had met had asked that the Hungarian government send more teachers and dance instructors to Hungarian weekend schools in Australia.
