National security professional of Hungarian origin appointed as Trump’s deputy assistant

Sebastian Gorka, whose parents emigrated from Hungary to the UK, has been appointed as Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States, index.hu reports.

Gorka announced his new position on twitter:

According to index.hu, he is projected to be the most important person with Hungarian connections in Trump’s White House. Gorka has participated in Hungarian politics since the 1990s, serving in the Ministry of Defence in the first freely-elected government after the fall of the Berlin wall. Later, he worked as Orbán’s advisor until 2006, when, following the fall of Fidesz, he turned against Orbán.

Later, he moved to the US, earning the citizenship in 2012. Since 2014, Gorka has been the editor for national security affairs at the American far-right newspaper Breitbart, and he was a regular guest on Fox News, which established his connection to Trump’s team.

According to uk.businessinsider.com, Gorka’s participation in the Trump presidency “represents Breitbart’s expanding role inside the Trump White House”, since it follows the appointment of Steve Bannon, former chairman of Breitbart, as White House Chief Strategist. Moreover, Breitbart immigration writer Julia Hahn is also expected to join the White House.
