Jobbik Calls for Probe of Szijjarto’s Assets
Budapest, September 27 (MTI) – Radical nationalist party Jobbik has called for a parliamentary investigation into the assets of Peter Szijjarto, recently appointed as minister of foreign affairs and trade, after the minister bought an expensive property.
Elod Novak, the party’s deputy leader, noted that the ruling parties had voted down an earlier proposal to start a probe into Szijjarto’s wealth.
The left-wing opposition earlier called for a procedure to be launched against Szijjarto on the ground that his assets had grown considerably more than his income. At the time, his spokesperson said Szijjarto had two sources of income: his salary and returns on investments.
On Thursday, Judit Fulop gave MTI a breakdown of the sources for the payment of his property, saying 68 million forints (EUR 220,000) was from the minister’s own savings, 10 million was from his wife’s savings, 10 million from his wife’s parents, 79 million from the minister’s parents, 45 million was borrowed while 34 million was a gift.
