Child stranded in Budapest bus stop without his mother after bus driver refuses to stop
A woman and her child suffered a shocking and inexplicable incident on a trolleybus in Budapest, szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu writes. The mother was trying to get off the bus with her baby in a pram, but the driver closed the door on them several times, and eventually the child got stranded in the bus stop with a stranger while the mother was stuck on the bus.
The 22-year-old Vivien Majoros wanted to get off a trolleybus at Heroes Square with her 5-month-old son, Benett. A passenger was helping her take the pram off the bus, she told Borsonline.
“The driver opened the door, the lady was holding the pram on the bottom, I was holding it at the top, and we were trying to get off the bus. A moment later, the bus driver shut the door on the pram, and only opened it after the whole bus started shouting. When the pram got off the bus with Benett, the door was shut in my face,” said Vivien.
She ran to the driver immediately, and told him what had happened, but the driver ignored her.
“The lady who stayed with Benett was knocking loudly, and the other passengers were shouting, too, but he ignored even these. When I asked him what he was doing, this was his answer: ‘Shut up or I’ll throw you off. You’ll get off at the next stop!’”
The bus only stopped at Benczúr street next, where the mother got off and ran back to the bus stop where the other lady was waiting with her son.
“There was a camera in the bus and I have the date and the time, so I immediately reported the incident at BKK [Budapest Transport Centre], but they only told me that they would look into it within 30 days,” said Vivien.
Szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu approached BKK about the incident. The press department of BKK apologized for the incident and said that they started an investigation immediately.
“We analysed the camera recording of bus 75 at the provided time, but the recording did not show the incident. We checked the recordings of the previous and subsequent buses as well, which did not record a similar happening either,” they said in response to the inquiry.
They promised to call their colleagues’ attention to people travelling with children, and to treating these events with care, attention, and empathy. They also said that, in case their colleague’s involvement is proven, BKK will take serious action.
