Hungarian, Russian Farm Ministers Meet in Moscow
Moscow, October 9 (MTI) – Farm Minister Sandor Fazekas has met Russian counterpart Nikolay Fedorov for talks on the sidelines of the Moscow agriculture show Golden Autumn.
Fazekas noted on Wednesday that on September 8 he had been the first European Union agriculture minister to meet Fedorov after Russia had imposed import restrictions on food products from the EU, US, Canada, Australia and Norway a month before.
Thanks to good relations with the Russian ministry, it is possible to find Hungarian goods and services that are not affected by the ban, and Russia is ready to further develop cooperation, Fazekas told MTI. The two ministers agreed that there are good opportunities for increasing Hungarian seed sales to Russia and possibly moving seed production there. Fedorov also proposed focusing on cooperation in animal breeding and agricultural technology.
Hungary wants to increase cooperation also with republics belonging to the Russian Federation, including Tatarstan, the Chuvash Republic and Bashkortostan, Fazekas said, adding that he planned to visit these republics with Hungarian businesspeople.
Gyula Budai, the government commissioner in charge of foreign trade measures linked to the embargo imposed by Russia, He told MTI that Hungary maintained its position that the conflicts need to be resolved through talks. He added that the Hungarian companies that entered the Russian market years ago eagerly wait for the embargo to be lifted and already prepare for the subsequent period.
Budai is travelling to Minsk on Thursday to attend a plenary meeting of the Belarus-Hungarian mixed committee.
