Solution on horizon on Ukraine-Hungarian dual citizenship issue?
Budapest, March 31 (MTI) – It appears there is a solution in sight regarding the dual citizenship issue affecting Hungarians in Ukraine, the prime minister’s spokesman said after PM Viktor Orbán met László Brenzovics, head of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Cultural Association (KMKSZ) on Friday.
Orbán briefed Brenzovics on the outcome of a meeting he held in Malta with the Ukrainian president on Thursday. Ukraine wants to solve the issue through bilateral talks and an agreement, the spokesman, Bertalan Havasi, said.
Orbán told Petro Poroshenko that he is open to talks on condition that Ukraine ensures the legal background necessary for such an agreement, he added.
Brenzovics thanked Orbán for Hungarian government help and support for the Hungarian community living in western Ukraine. Orbán, in turn, told the association’s leader that this support would be expanded.
