Budapest Photo Festival until end of April

The Budapest Photo Festival is an annual city-wide exhibition series what represents the contemporary and classical values of the photography by the presence of the Hungarian and international art scene. The aim of the Festival is to create Budapest to be the „City of Photography” in the spring of 2017 with the 1st edition.
The festival has two highlighted exhibitions as a frame: the opening show what is the famous MAGNUM photographer, Alex Webb’s „Suffering from Light” at Kunstahale (Műcsarnok) and a Hungarian contemporary overview „SUBJECTUM” at Castle Garden Bazaar. The emphasis, – next to the two highlighted exhibitions – , is on the presentation of the international contemporary scene, by the program of the International Cultural Institutes and the guest festival, beside the exhibitions of the biggest galleries, museums and art schools of the Hungarian Capital. The Festival involves many public programs also: lectures, workshops, photomarathon, museum educational events, portfolio review and photobook show, what will place at the Festivalcenter at the Budapest Project Gallery.
In the starting year our international partners are the Institut Francais Budapest, Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, Turkish Cultural Center, Cervantes Institute, Photometria – International Photography Festival (Gr), Museum partners are the Műcsarnok (Kunstahale), Várkert Bazár (The Castle Garden Bazaar), Hungarian National Museum / Fence Exhibition, Hungarian Olympic and Sports Museum, Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism, Hungarian Theatre Museum and Institute, Szabó Ervin Central Library, Kisgaléria and the biggest galleries: Artphoto Gallery, ArtBázis, D17 Gallery, Deák Erika Gallery, Faur Zsófi Gallery, FISE Gallery, FUGA – Budapest Center of Architecture, Gregersen Art Point, Horizont Gallery, K.A.S. Gallery, Molnár Ani Gallery, TOBE Gallery, PHOTON Gallery (Ljubljana), Várfok projekt Room and Viltin Gallery. To represent the younger generation the Festival exhibits the show of the Secondary School of Visual Arts and the Moholy-Nagy Art University.
The Festival is under the patronage of Szalay-Bobrovniczky Alexandra, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Budapest, supported by the Municipality of Budapest and a member of the Photo European Network (PHEN).
