CEU requests constitutional review of higher education amendment – VIDEO
Budapest, April 4 (MTI) – Budapest’s Central European University (CEU) will appeal to President János Áder for a constitutional review of higher education amendments passed into law on Tuesday, CEU head Michael Ignatieff said.
Speaking online from Washington, DC, at a press conference by the university, Ignatieff voiced disappointment over the new law, which he said had been “forced through” parliament hastily and without any debate.
Ignatieff confirmed CEU’s earlier position that the university would go on with its courses “under any condition” and added that continuing in Budapest, “home to the university”, was a top priority.

CEU Condemns Passage of Amendments to Hungary’s Higher Education Law Restricting Academic Freedom, Plans Legal Action
CEU also regards the new legislation as a violation of the clear constitutional provisions in Hungary’s basic law that protect the freedom of scientific research. “We will contest the constitutionality of this legislation,” said CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff. “In the meantime, we call on the government to enter into dialogue to see whether an agreement can be reached to resolve the issue. Such an international binding agreement must allow CEU to continue its operations in Budapest and safeguard its academic freedom.”In reacting to the new law, Rector Ignatieff said, “This legislation has been rammed through Parliament in a single week following a tide of defamatory attacks on the university and its degrees. These attacks have not succeeded. We are deeply grateful for the support we have received from Hungarian faculty, students and institutions of learning. “
CEU will continue to maintain the integrity and continuity of its academic programs throughout this period and assures all current and prospective students that CEU will remain in continuous operation whatever the circumstances.
Expressions of support for CEU and condemnation of the legislation include:

SOROS and his evil ‘doings’ needs to get out of Hungary!!!!
@Michael Ignatieff( or Ignatyev),
What’s this Mike? A last ditch effort to flap your gums to anybody willing to listen, especially of your pointless career? You talk about everybody’s constitutions, but you don’t see the wolves from the sheep do you. The fact that every other single foreign based educational institute has managed to meet the rule of law except yours. It’s been given an extension even, and your still dragging you asses and flapping your gums. You should retire and write a book on your lifelong real accomplishments to the world, shouldn’t take too long, a hour or so.

Here is why the “Stop Soros Bill” now being considered by the Hungarian Parliament should be found Wanting.
What all Members of the Hungarian Parliament should know, is that given the current political Climate in Europe, expecially for Hungarians, Viktor Orban is irreplaceable.
Much wishing to have him replaced is George Soros…whose Beachhead on Nador u. 9-11 enables him to do this.
Apart from this, “Central European Univision”…ready to go as soon as Soros Inc. is vacated from this Address… A prospective Board of Directors at the “New CEU”…
“Central European Univision, Nyrt”…being a prospective Subsidiary of “Opus Global Nyrt”… Bela Bugar, Member of Slovak Parliament, Chairman of the Board & Beatrix Meszaros, Chairman, Opus Global Nyrt, “New CEU”-CEO… Sandor Csanyi, CEO, OTP Bank Istvan Tarlos, Mayor of Budapest Arpad Torok…CEO, Trigranit ConstructionGyorgy Rajnai… CEO, Korda FilmsMaria Schmidt, Proprietor, “Figyelo”, MagazineAndrew Vajna…Movie Producer Laszlo Toroczkai…Mayor of Asotthalom…(my Choice as “Captain” of the “New Hungarian Guard”… & Marta Kato…Managing Director of “Daily News Hungary” …
which along with Korda Film Studios & Origo Film Studios, is quite able to make Hungary the “Media Capital of Europe”.
Is the Hungarian Parliament interested in Any of This?
Apparently not.
No Matter what happens to the 1-time Recipient of a George Soros Scholarship, who is giving Soros Fits…in “stopping Soros”. all that really matters to the Hungarian Parliament is that “No Member of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee can get within 5 Ks of the Border with Serbia”.
No Member of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee can get within 5 Ks of the Border with Serbia”.
NICE!! Best news i’ve heard from our brothers south of the border, GO SERBIA !!!
