Broad Social Cohesion Ceeded for Hungarians in Slovakia to Survive, Says Official
Budapest, October 14 (MTI) – A broad social and civil society cohesion is necessary for the Hungarian community in Slovakia to survive, the state secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office in charge of Hungarian communities abroad said in Bratislava.
Arpad Janos Potapi held talks with Jozsef Berenyi, the head of the Party of the Hungarian Community (MKP), church leaders and leaders of Hungarian organisations on Tuesday, discussing the goals and challenges faced by the local Hungarian community in the areas of education, culture and youth policy.
Berenyi told a press conference after the meeting that the community considers the support of the Hungarian government important and would count on it in the future, too, to help stop the decline of the size of the Hungarian community in Slovakia.
Potapi said the Hungarian government considered the MKP its strategic partner and also noted the role of the long-standing churches and youth organisations in helping the ethnic Hungarian community survive.
